MORE LIKE A CABIN THAN A HOUSE (no AC)
Castle Corrales is a very affortable stay. Huge bedrooms, and I mean huge. Lot's of room. There is no AC. Now that wasn't an issue for us when we were there in June. A little warm during the day, but very pleasant at night. There are fans in every room. It feels more like a cabin then a house. It is at the end of a dirt road but the drive is scenic. It's located just a few miles from any stores, food, you may need. The appliances need to be updated, but other than that, we enjoyed ourselves. A solid 3.5 stars overall.
Memorial Day Weekend
Overall impression of the property is...it can use some TLC and owners/POC attention to details.
Upon arrival, keypad would not accept the code as instructed in the arrival information email. Called owner and waited for a reply. Reply was, please text me. While I was on the phone with Evolve, I had my wife call, he told her the reason the code would not work is because check in is at 3 PM...it was almost 6 PM. He gave us a new code over the text and we had access.
The next day we were heading out for the day when we received a call from the POC that the alarm in the house had been activated and the police were coming to the property. We made reservations with 2 pets and paid a fee for two pets, he said he didn't know we had the dogs and he recommended we lock them in a bedroom; not the right answer. End result, we went back to the property and unlocked the front door which deactivates the alarm. Keep in mind, the information book did not even mention the alarm system in the house...not very smart.
Some issues we had besides not being clean are:
1. Heating system did not work. We found portable heaters and made it with those. OBTW Low temps were in the 40s.
2. Microwave and 2 outlets in the kitchen did not work
3. Found ladies underwear under one of the beds.
4. Overall information for the property was lacking. Little things like TV operations, Alarm System, Portable heaters, etc...
With a little TLC and a thorough cleaning inside and out, this could be by far one of the best properties we stayed.
Great find for ABQ
Great property and we all enjoyed our stay at the house. The house is in a great neighborhood and was clean and comfortable.
Very very spacious.
Beautiful setting. Discreet yet right in the middle of everything you need.
The pictures make the house look like it is so much better shape than it is. While it does have several good features, overall, it is not what I had expected. The living room and dining room are big and roomy, which is nice. The beds have good quality sheets and are comfortable but the rest of the house needs some work. Our biggest problem was the sewer system. The property uses a septic tank and during our four day stay we had to call for Roto Rooter service two times because of clogged toilets.
There was a total of 8 guests in the house but the septic tank could not support all three toilets and they got clogged several times. It was obvious the Roto Rooter service man had been there before because he knew exactly where the bathrooms were and what the problem was. It was nice that the owner did take care of the problem as quickly as possible but this really needs to be overhauled before the next booking. In general, the house needs a good cleaning. There are cob webs in several of the corners as well as the light fixtures. The light fixtures had several burnt out bulbs all through out the house. The trash cans in the kitchen were filthy. The tub in one room is stained at the drain. Possibly from the sewer backing up. The outside property needs some safety concerns fixed. There are several loose bricks. They keep the mop bucket in the back yard. Not very pleasant to look at. The kitchen was lacking several basic utensils. It needs items like measuring cups, serving spoons, casserole dishes and a few more pots and pans. We only had a couple of trash bags for the entire weekend. If I knew I needed more, I would've brought them. When we arrived in the middle of December, it took 24 hours for the house to warm up. There were several free standing units turned on through out the house but the radiant heating had not been turned on and that takes a while to heat up. I had to change the batteries in one of the thermostats because it wasn't even working. I don't think I should have to do that.
Lovely girls weekend!
Great for six adult women. Enjoyed location and backyard with waterfall and pond was beautiful
