Spring Bank Cottage, is wonderfully located in the heart of the pretty village of Hayfield. It has super walking and cycling from the doorstep and a choice of pubs, restaurants and shops within a five minute walk. There are lovely views from all floors and from the garden, over the village cricket ground and to the hills beyond. The ground floor consists of a hall, kitchen, living room, wc and cloakroom. The living room has an open fire and double doors open onto a large balcony.
The lower ground floor has a garden room and utility with laundry and drying facilities. The garden has a lawn, terrace and barbecue facilities. On the first floor there are 3 bedrooms (a double, a twin and a single) and a family bathroom with walk in shower. On the top floor is the master suite with a king sized bed and luxury wetroom. The house is centrally heated, double glazed and there is constant hot water. There is a 48" flat screen smart TV, DVD player, blue tooth speaker and superfast wifi. Bed linen, towels, central heating and the use of the Wifi are included in the rental.

Fabulous house in a great village

We had a fabulous week here. We were a party of six adults and one baby. The house is spacious and very comfortable. The garden room was well used by the boys who wanted to carry on talking after us oldies and the baby were tucked up in bed. It is a great space and far enough away from the bedrooms to not disturb those early to bed or late to get up! The lounge was cozy, comfortable and practical with amazing views. We found the dining arrangement easily manageable. The kitchen was very usable and sociable as it was close to the living area. The double room overlooking the cricket green on the first floor was ideal for my daughter with plenty of space for a travel cot and still room to move around. The other bedrooms were also a good size. The loft bedroom was very light, spacious and modern. The en suite was beautiful, and I loved the transluscent shower wall. However, a door between the bedroom and en suite would be a welcome addition. The garden and garden furniture were great and we had a fantastic sunny Sunday afternoon out there drinking Pimms and watching the cricket.

There are a lot of stairs (it does state it is over four floors ) but, as it is the Peak District, and we were there to go walking, that was not a problem. There are plenty of walking routes straight from the front door, some of which are pushchair friendly although we mostly used the baby carrier. There is a travel cot and stair gate and the accomodation was suitable for our 8 month old grandaughter. Toddlers would need to be closely supervised as the stairs are steep. The availability of a washing machine was very appreciated too.

The local shops and pubs were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely meal at the Pack Horse Pub and would recommend it.

We would happily return here again and feel it is ideal for a family or group of friends.

Good property that would be even better with a few small changes

The house is wonderfully situated within Hayfield. The location gives great access to the Peak District, as well as the city of Manchester.

The property has 4 floors with rooms that are quite spacious and comfortable. It can easily meet the needs of a larger group (we were with 4 adults and 3 small children), although to be perfect for such a larger group, a few small changes should be made, most importantly a larger refrigerator in the kitchen, or at least an additional one in the basement, as the current (only) one in the kitchen fits under the kitchen worktop and won't hold enough to last a party of 8 adults much more than a single day, although there is a freezer in the basement. The kitchen itself is spacious and allows for some good social cooking!

If staying with 8, however, getting everyone around the dining table will be a bit of a challenge again; it will comfortably seat 6, but not 8 adults.

The living room on the lowest floor is a great playing area for children, but is a bit dank unless heated so can be a bit unpleasant to sit in for longer periods of time. All of the bedrooms and beds are fine; no complaints there. We did find it a bit odd that the en-suite bathroom on the top floor had no door at all, so the toilet is visible at all times. The shower also has no door/curtain, so you have to be a bit careful not to flood the bedroom.

What definitely could improve is the cleaning; all visible surfaces were mostly clean, although not spotless, but in the living room on the lowest floor we found half bags of crisps half buried in the sofas. I have no problems with some areas getting a bit less attention, but this could attract unwanted visitors if left unattended.

Throughout our stay, we had a few minor issues, and the owner was absolutely wonderful in trying to arrange a solution for us, even though she was on holiday herself at the time; she is clearly dedicated to her guests, responds quickly and is very friendly.

All in all we had a great time here and would gladly stay in Spring Bank Cottage again, even more so if the few minor issues above are addressed.

We wanted to mention that we advertise the house for 7 + cot, but were able to accept your booking for the 8 guests since 3 of you were under 3 years old!. We think the house comfortably accommodates 7, but we'll certainly look into changing or adding another fridge. Based on feedback, we purposely keep the heating turned down in the garden room, we it leave it to guests to adjust as necessary, it very quickly warms up when needed. We're actually very proud of the new en suite in the top bedroom, it is designed as a contemporary wet room, and we have encountered similar configurations in boutique hotels. However, we'll note your comments and take stock. We would be very happy to welcome you back to Spring Bank Cottage. Christine and Neville Reeve

Ein geräumiges, gemütlich eingerichtetes Ferienhaus in guter Lage

Spring Bank Cottage liegt an einer steilen, wenig befahrenen Straße. Von der Gartenseite bietet sich ein grandioser Blick auf das Cricketfeld, das Dorf und die Berge des Peak Districts. Rundum sind abwechslungsreiche Wanderwege in kurzer Entfernung zu erreichen. Das Haus ist gut ausgestattet und bietet viel Platz. Beide Bäder und die Toilette im Erdgeschoss sind modern und geschmackvoll gestaltet. In der Küche findet man alle benötigten Utensilien. Das neu renovierte Studio im Dachgeschoss verfügt über ein eigenes Duschbad. Auf dem Balkon und der Terrasse kann man bei schönem Wetter die Sonne genießen. Im Dorf gibt es mehrere Gastronomien. Es verfügt über zwei kleine Läden, in denen man sich mit dem wichtigsten versorgen kann. Unmittelbar in der Nachbarschaft ist ein gemütlicher Tea Room.

Drei Dinge sollte man beachten: 1. Im Haus sind viele steile Treppen, es ist also nicht so geeignet für Gäste mit Laufproblemen. 2. Das Studio ist nicht über eine Tür vom Treppenhaus abgetrennt, so dass man nachts Bewegungen aus dem darunter liegenden Stockwerk hört. 3. Im Studio befindet sich wegen der Dachschräge keine Tür zwischen WC/Dusche und Raum, nur ein offener schmaler Durchgang.

Wir haben uns in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt und den Aufenthalt rundum genossen und würden es jederzeit wieder mieten.

Very comfortable and an excellent location

Spring Bank Cottage is a spacious comfortable cottage that made a great base for our annual college girls reunion! We did a couple of great walks from the door and it is only a two minute walk to the welcoming pubs in the village. Many thanks Christine.

Hayfield est un village prospère et la passerelle à la High Peak. Il est populaire auprès des marcheurs et les cyclistes car il est au pied de Kinder Scout et à la fin de la Valley Trail Sett. Dans quelques miles de villages intéressants comme Castleton, Edale, Eyam et petites villes comme Buxton et Ashborn. Les autres attractions locales sont Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall et de Lyme Park.
