Spectacular House in Superb Location
I am so glad that we chose to stay here rather than in a hotel. Richard and Glorin were wonderful hosts in this charming and quiet house located a block from the San Juan Cathedral on what is reputed to be the oldest street in San Juan. It is within walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and night life on Calle Forteleza and Calle San Francisco. The location couldn't be more perfect. We were able to walk to all of the sights in Old San Juan.
The thing that sold me on this property, however was the rooftop terrace (which is where I'm writing this review). It has a completely furnished outdoor kitchen, a dining area, rocking chairs, and a hammock. We fixed and ate breakfast here every morning (a SuperMax grocery was just a few blocks away in Plaza Armas) and found it was the perfect way to start the day. Sitting in a rocking chair in the evening also provided the perfect ending to the day.
The apartment, which is on the top floor is quiet and private. Yes, there are stairs, but it's worth the climb. It has a king-size bed (a rarity in San Juan), air conditioning, TV with satellite programming (Dish), a Blu-Ray player, and all the charm that comes with an 18th-century house. It has an en suite bathroom with a shower (no tub). The towels are of excellent quality and beach towels were provided for those so inclined. Hot water was plentiful for my long showers. The water is potable, but not particularly tasty.
Richard provided information on local sights and places to eat. He was far more accurate than Google. We loved the places he recommended. He also provided interesting history and local flavor that are beyond what a hotel can provide.
This is the only place I would want to stay when I return again to San Juan. It's that good!
