Views were spectacular, the house was charming and comfortable.
We rented this house for parents weekend at vmi. We were so pleased with amenities, location and comfort. We will definitely recommend to friends and stay again.
Great getaway close to Lexington. Nice view. Would stay there again.
Very convenient to Lexington.
We really liked the location, especially for things we wanted to visit while in the area. The creek was nice and added a lot to the atmosphere of the place. However, the grass was tall when we arrived and there were geese everywhere, which meant geese poop all over the back yard. Also, beside the cottage the grass and foliage were very grown up and it looked kind of snaky to me, and sure enough a snake was on the porch the first afternoon we were there. It was kind of neat though, to see all of the wildlife. Definitely quiet and serene. We saw 5 deer, a beaver, a snake, geese, and a young bear came walking out of the woods the last morning we were there. I was a little disappointed though with the cleanliness of the house itself. Felt like I had to wash all of the silverware (silverware trays were nasty) and dishes before I even used them.
Thank you for the feedback, we will get the cleaning concerns addressed immediately. We have had a very wet summer and it has been a challenge for our lawn service to maintain their normal schedule. We apologize that impacted your stay with us.
My family and I had an amazing mini vacation here at Buffalo Bend. It was the perfect size for myself, my husband, my 3 & 4 year old, and my in-laws. We spent many hours on the creek with our children fishing, reading and playing in the water. Perfect location only 6 miles from the cute town of Lexington with alot of food options and craft beer choices. Only minutes away from the Safari Zoo which was the focus of our trip. Great area, it was so nice to get away and relax.
This was perfect for myself and family and provided everything we needed for our weekend in Virginia! I highly recommend this cottage for beautiful nature views!
I wouldn't do it again-needs maintenance and she watches you
Initially, the owners were very easy to work with, they even graciously refunded one of our three nights stay due to our son's medical issue. The backyard river view was spectacular.
The house says it sleeps 6, we intended to bring 5 of us down so, we thought we were in good shape. We are a family with 7 children and 3 grandchildren. When my children showed up the first night ( they drove from their own hotels) to have a cookout- the owner ( whose house is adjacent to the property) came right over and told my husband we weren't allowed any events on the property. He explained we were just having a family cookout that night and the following day a cookout for our VMI graduate and his roommates. The owner explained we could not do this, or we had to rent a Dons John to have more than 6 people ON the property. ( The website in no way indicated this). My husband agreed to rent the Dons John. The very next morning The owner called me while I was out on a run, (she watched two of my adult children pulling up to the house ), to say she was "concerned about the parking and when was the Dons John coming?" I explained to her we would be most respectful to her property and the Don John was on its way. I explained I felt she had a misleading website and it did not say only 6 people could be on the property at any one time nor did it say a Dons John had to be rented.
I told her basically we were at her mercy.
The owner watches through her window the activity in the adjacent house and treats mature adults like kindergarteners. Their is absolutely No privacy- it is this writers opinion- she monitors the property 24/7. If you are a couple with one child and do not care to about being watched the whole time- this would be ideal.
Be ware- the back steps are dangerous, their are about 6-8 steps, very weathered and worn. The last step down is too far- would say it is not code. The grandparents did not even attempt the stairs, nor the children without parental assistance.
The grass to the river was not recently cut, so we were continually pulling ticks off our legs.
The view , as I said was spectacular, but I felt the ownera were managing this home on a very shoestring budget and it was evident.
The oven in the home is a mini-oven- the first night we tried cooking salmon for our family and their is only one small rack in the oven, so it did not accommodate the room necessary to cook our dinner.
More upkeep def. needed and only offer it for a family of 3-4
We are sorry you felt watched and did not enjoy your stay. Our property information clearly states no events or parties. When we observed more cars arriving, a tent and volleyball net being setup we inquired with your husband. We were informed you were expecting 40+ people. We requested a Porta potty be ordered as to not overload the septic system. We called the following day to confirm your plans for the Porta potty. Given it was a graduation at no time did we ask you to cancel the party.
Our property description also includes that the cottage has a 3/4 oven.
We make repairs and upgrades each year, and will address the bottom step leading to the river.
We apologize the grass was long. Due to recent heavy and frequent rains, our lawn service was not able to keep to our normal lawn cutting schedule.
