We have stayed at many lakeside cabins in the past. This one is absolutely the most beautiful, cozy and peaceful of them all. The serene setting, the lovely view and the clean living quarters have won our hearts. Eagles flying overhead, Ospreys diving for fish and plenty of fish to catch here. We spent our evenings in front of the fire pit and enjoyed the lovely screened in porch. We absolutely will return to this peaceful setting.
I am so happy that you enjoyed the cabin. It really is a special spot and I am so happy to share it with others & really hope they create lasting memories here. The eagles are always so majestic and yes, tons of fish! The screened in porch is our favorite spot as well. Glad to have you return again.
Enjoyed a lovely week at Dorie's camp on Thompson Lake. Freindly (yet relatively quiet) neighbors with plenty of space in between cabins. An absolutely picturesque view of the lake and Goat Island from the spacious screened in porch. They now have beautiful wicker chairs with comfortable cushions. The new dock and small boat tie up was appreciated. Cabin was JUST what Maine cabin should look like... and was very clean. We'll be back.
So glad that you enjoyed your stay. We love the gorgeous view and are so happy to be able to share with others. The wicker chairs are my antiquing finds & I'm so glad you found the cushions comfy- I just recovered them before your visit. SUPER that you are coming back!!!!
Wonderful property owned by folks aiming to please on a gorgeous lakefront setting
Our experience exceeded our expectations of a lakeside family vacation!
It became very apparent that the owners have put much time and thought into shaping our experience. All possible cottage stay needs were all provided with detailed notes thoughtfully placed to help navigate the property as well as the local community. There was not a thing we wished for that was not included. We enjoyed lots of kayaking during which there were eagle sightings as well as an island where loon nesting grounds are protected.
Local store “the new outpost” has a well stocked variety store/take out cafe just a 2/10 mile walk with welcoming and friendly staff. Hannaford grocery store also only 7 miles away was well stocked and friendly. A stand out detail is that all the furnishings both interior and exterior were very comfortable. We have never encountered that with previous rentals. It was a great vacation and we are ready to return again next year. Thanks to the owners for being such great hosts!
Thank you so much for all your kind words. My main goal as an owner is to provide my renters with a home that is not just comfortable and appealing but also has all the accommodations needed. I hope you and your family had a wonderful time and created some everlasting memories.
This little cottage called Bear Necessities became a beautiful retreat for my husband and I . We stayed for a week Sept 9 to 16 and I am happy to report that the swimming was still good ...though mornings mostly, as the wharf became enveloped in shade after about 1 pm ( and I do like to dry off in the sun ) :) That being said the trees provided a beautiful shady canopy over the porch most times and my husband loved that !Air temps mid to low seventies .The cabin was private and all we encountered were chipmunks , squirrels ...oh and the cutest inch worm :) . I made use of the fire pit a few evenings ... some firewood had been neatly stacked and left nearby.
Inside , the bed was comfy , the decor superb ( felt like we were on golden pond ) , and I particularly loved the little bear footstool. All necessities were provided . We appreciated the Keurig for morning coffee ...there were even pods to use , which we replaced most of ...thank - you . Electric oven worked well as did the heater ...evenings .
We enjoyed the covered veranda with comfortable seating , also the Adirondack chairs out front ...great reading spots . The gurgling sound the waves made hitting those rocks as I sat became the PERFECT focus for meditating . I highly recommend this cottage at this time of year for peace and quiet , for those who love to swim and read , and for a place to enjoy quality time with a partner . Kudos to the owners for all the detail provided that made arrival , the stay itself and departure ...a breeze .
Hard to top this one .
Bear Bones Cottage
Had a wonderful time. Cabin is what a lake cabin should be. The owners provided everything you could want to have. The dock and mooring worked well. The kitchen was well stocked. The views and the screened porch were wonderful.
Classic, Clean and Comfortable!
Place was great for anyone looking for classic Maine camp, but not wanting to give up on most of the basic comforts of home.
The name "Bear Necessities" is cute, but a bit misleading as the place was better equipped than we expected. We brought extras such as blankets, some kitchenware and supplies etc., but everything there was in nice shape and well organized, so it wasn't really necessary to bring anything but the sheets, towels and toiletries. We didn't bring a lot of food, expecting to take a break from cooking by eating out much of the time. However, we enjoyed just hanging around the place so much that it was easier to make basic meals at the cabin and relax on the porch. There is a Hannaford supermarket less than 15 minutes away that made for an easy trip for supplies. Also, there is a small variety store a 3 minute walk or paddle away for sandwiches, burgers, pizza and ice cream.
A couple of other things to take note of. The living area is large enough with plenty of seating and an extra game table. This, combined with the screened porch, made it feel roomier than expected, even with two teenagers. Also, there are no closets, but extras can be stored away in the larger master bedroom so they aren't in the way. The cabin is in the shade most of the day, so it never got too hot. Although we didn't need it, there is electric heat in both the main living area and bathroom to take the edge off a chilly morning. The bathroom is roomy, recently renovated and as nice as most hotel bathrooms. Boats can be rented at Thompson Marina, a short drive away. Basically, a great simple and relaxing getaway!
