This place had my husband's favorite beach. Though he has a walking disability he found this one easier than it looked to take a walk. Even with the stairs and rocks. There was not a huge staircase down to the beach and the rocks were not large steps. However he did need my help. What made it easier was not a lot of soft sand before you reach the compacted wet sand. The nice things about the place other than view and access is its clean and comfortable. I enjoyed places at both entryways to have places to put our stuff. I really like being able to sit down and take off my shoes before bringing the beach in with me. The biggest drawback was the kitchen was not well stocked. We loved everything else.
Great view but dated
The place had a wonderful view of the beach. Previous reviews mentioned a leak in the skylight to the left of the fireplace - its still there but really not that inconvenient. the owner and his daughter lives next door, a wall away with a gap in the door that separates the two living quarters. Occasionally I heard sounds from there. The place advertises as sleeps 5 but I wouldn't go beyond 2. However the bed was very comfortable. The couch in the living is way past its usefulness. It's lumpy and sags and should be replaced. When checking in we were greeted by the caretaker Bob who was very nice. However he explained that there was no key but promised one within the next day. That never happened. The paper towels in the kitchen was 5 sheets from the end, and there was only a single roll of toilet paper in each of the bathrooms. He said he would resupply both the next day and never did so we ended up buying our own. There was also no soap in the shower and the hand soap in each bathroom was down to the last couple of squirts. We had to resupply that as well.
The TV was not an HD but the cable provided was wonderful with HBO, SHO and the wi-fi was good.
Overall our stay was good but NOT worth the money charged.
Roof leaks but great view and access to the beach
If you are staying in the winter beware, the roof leaks quite badly as previous reviews have stated. Previous reviews state that from early 2018 the roof has leaked, but nothing has been done to address this as there appears to be serious water damage around the skylight. They request you not adjust the thermostat as it affects the rest of the home, however it can get freezing with the leaking roof. You can use the baseboard heat, but we ended up using the wood stove to produce heat. Fireplace is where the leak is, so it didn't work for producing heat. The great thing is the location, steps from the beach, so if you are staying when it isn't raining and is warm outside, this is a great property.
Great view and beach access, but a bit tired.
Great view of the water and access to the beach. The Arch Cape beach can't be beat - gorgeous and uncrowded. Very nice host. Comfortable bed in bedroom. Kitchen has what you need for cooking, etc. with supplies like paper towels and saran wrap and coffee provided. Everything works well and it served our needs. But be aware that you are stepping into the past. While this place is clean and cared for, it hasn't been updated in many years. Everything is old, but usable. Also be aware that you really are sharing the space with the host since he and his family are just a wall away on the same level. I also would not stay here with more than two people. The hide-a-bed is very uncomfortable and not really an option for anyone to sleep on. There is a bench in the living room for a child to sleep on that worked just fine. But, if I had to do it over, I would not have booked this for our group of three. Would work well for a couple. The listing is a bit confusing. I thought it said there was a pullout bed in the bedroom, but there is not. Just a queen bed in bedroom and un-usable hide-a-bed and the one-person sleeping bench in the living room.
It was incredible! Nice cozy clean apartment with the ocean at your feet.
The caretaker, Bob was super nice and we got to meet and talk with his beautiful daughter, Emma. We spent 3 nights there and had to tear ourselves away from the place. Thanks so much Bob for making sure everything was right for us.
Great setting and view but the place is worn out. The 70's era furniture is so old and worn that the Goodwill wouldn't take it. Never got the firewood Bob promised, had to go buy paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags. Not to mention the constant noise from Bobs place next door. Wouldn't recommend it.
Sheryl, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear your stay fell short of your expectations. It's our goal for guests to have 5-star experience, and we have passed your comments along to the homeowner for consideration. We strive to provide accurate listings, and we do not mention that firewood is available, but we apologize if that caught you off guard. They also advised us that the necessary cleaning supplies can be found in the closet. We will use your feedback so future guests have even better experiences - thank you for letting us know!
