The Little Cottage in Rehoboth
Overall it was a good stay. This is a nice little cottage on a quiet street about one block from the main street, Rehoboth. It has two small bedrooms and an attic with pull down steps and three more beds--not suitable for younger kids as you have to be careful on the narrow, pull down steps. Remember to bring your own linens and towels!!
Kitchen has all the conveniences including coffee machine but we were unhappy about the mice problem. Droppings were in several places in the kitchen. We stored the food in the fridge but one night a mouse scurried through the living room into the bedroom. The walk to the beach is a good 15-20 minutes. It wasn't comfortable to lug all of our beach equipment there and back but I suppose we could have packed the car and used the parking pass. It was nice that they had beach chairs and umbrellas for use as well as washer and dryer. There was a driveway for parking and a nice little front yard to sit and an outdoor shower which we used every day. Owners were very helpful. I would say that if they cure the mice problem it's a nice cottage if you don't mind the longish walk to the beach.
Thanks Betty for staying at The Little Cottage and very sorry that you had a "little visitor" this summer. In six years as owner, I have never encountered a mouse at TLC but believe the heavy rains may have enticed one to run through an open door and hide out. I did have the cottage professionally exterminated and the indoor/outdoor stations/traps have worked perfectly. I am now living there off season and rest assured there are NO MICE! I am also sorry you did not use the permit provided to leave your car parked right next to beach. It sure beats walking with gear!
The cottage was well stocked and beds were comfortable. I just can’t give it 5 stars for 2 reasons. There is very little light in the kitchen making meal prepping difficult for the over 40 crowd and no light at all in the dining area. The other reason is the noise from window air conditioners running constantly. It’s a bit annoying if you aren’t used to it. Otherwise a great place for a family to stay. We walked everywhere and only took the car to the grocery store and to drop off our beach chairs/towels/snacks/etc.
Thanks Mary for your feedback. Wonder if you discovered the light switch for the kitchen or just relied on small lamp on counter. The switch is easy to access but not obvious as it is just behind refrigerator. I will mark it clearly for next season. Many homes in Rehoboth rely on window units as opposed to central AC for cooling, but the humming can lull you to sleep and when its really hot they get the job done! Perhaps you should consider renting very early season or October when a fan is more than enough. Hope you will consider a cooler month!
Everything you could ask for in a beach cottage. A little far to beach but I don't mind walking.
Thanks so much and so happy you enjoyed your stay! Come again!!!!
Great place for a Rehoboth visit
The Little Cottage proved to be an excellent accommodation for our first visit to Rehoboth Beach. Our group of three adults made frequent walks into the busy part of town for the beach, nice restaurants, and a little shopping. Always glad to return to a very quiet retreat in the cottage. The cottage was equipped for our needs including a nice surprise of a bicycle (which allowed the early riser among us to go out and wheel around without having to rent a bike).
The cottage was clean and I appreciated the fact that a cleaning service actually moved the trash can to and from the curb on pick up days. We didn't have to worry about timing it.
The cottage is in a residential neighborhood, very quiet. It was an easy drive to Route 1 and the busy outlet mall and other shopping centers. Which made it nice for one rainy day when we ventured out to see a movie.
I would definitely book this cottage again for our next visit.
Darling little beach house
Really just a fantastic little cottage -- we enjoyed the amenities -- bicycles, (bookshelf stocked with beach reading), beach chairs and umbrellas, board games, walking access to everything in Rehoboth. I couldn't figure out how to use the TV remote but it was NBD for us as we watch everything on iPads anyway. Once communication with our pleasant and friendly host got squared away, we were all set up for the easiest vacation ever. The parking pass was a big help! We loved the outdoor shower with piping hot water, because we went to the beach daily until the last few days of our stay. Once the rain started (and it rained nonstop for a while), the house got pretty humid and a bit on the musty side, and we couldn't even use the A/C as a makeshift dehumidifier since it was quite chilly already in the cool rain and cloudy days.
However -- it was overall a lovely, quiet little place for us to enjoy a long lazy vacation, with many nights in a row of solid sleep!
Great family vacation
We had a great family vacation! The Little Cottage was exactly as described in the vrbo listing. The owner is very nice and responsive!
