This house was situated nicely on Lt Island. Great views. The house left a lot to be desired however. None of this is Del Mars fault. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom (shaver, Hair dryer?) The renovations by the homeowner were poorly done (holes in the flooring, had to remove crickets every morning). The old windows are mostly all inoperative or when unlocked the upper sash slides down rendering the screen useless There are NO closets or anywhere else to hang clothes other than the backs of doors. This house is advertised as sleeping 6 and indeed there are 2 bunk beds and a queen size bed but there is no where to put clothes. It was quiet and we do not cook so the dingy pots and pans were not a factor. And Del Mar responded promptly with an extension cord for the bathroom upon our request.
Because the weather was great we had a wonderful time and were able to deal with the deficiencies.
Great experience and great stay!
I am glad to hear you had a great stay. I speak for all of us here at Del Mar Vacations when I say that we loved and would love to host you again in Wellfleet or in any other of our amazing vacation rentals on Cape Cod!
Remote and Amazing
The property is located on a small sometimes-island. If the tide is high, you may not be able to leave/return. The roads are unpaved and lined by scrubby pines and oaks that create tree tunnels of beauty. This property is almost at the far tip of the island, and it is small. We are a family of four and managed it just fine with some concessions. It is not fancy, but the view and location make up for that in spades. To wake up and see the water each day; to be able to walk out any time of day to explore the many sides of the island at low and high tide; to sit on the back patio with coffee in hand watching the bees do their work make up for not having an outlet in the bathroom for your hair dryer. At least it does for us! Additionally, Wellfleet was the perfect location between Chatham and Ptown. We whale watched, seal toured, and sand dune explored. Marconi Beach is just minutes away and Nauset Beach is under a half hour away. Wellfleet itself has some fun restaurants and there are wildlife refuge spots, bike trials, and plenty of places to walk and jog. There are swimming ponds not far away, too. Bob’s restaurant on 6 just at the end of Lieutenant Island Road is a handy quick-bite. Best ice cream: Purple Feather in Ptown is what the majority of our family says but I liked Nauset Ice Cream, too.
We had possibly our best family vacation here so do not hesitate to book this home. Fair warning: if you can’t handle the heat, know that the window unit will not help. It worked for us because we didn’t have any overly hot days and the nights were cool, but if it were a 90 degree day you’d be in for a hot night. Another word to the wise for anyone staying anywhere on the Cape, take food from home. Veggies are hard to come by and even the grocery stores are expensive. A case of water at home is $3 and on the Cape it’s $7. Know before you go.
Bottom line: we would book this house again to be back on our island looking at shells and swimming in high tide! If water is important, you’ll love this spot.

Sweet little rustic beach cottage
We loved Lieutenant Island. This is a small (2-3 people) very rustic cottage nestled amongst very large and lovely homes. Wonderful sunset views. Beach at low tide.
Peaceful Cape Retreat
Great rustic cape cottage on a secluded island. My wife and twin four year-olds had a wonderful time exploring the different beaches around the island, both at low and high tide. Big tide changes make it an interesting place. Incredibly peaceful location with a nice view of Wellfleet bay on the back patio. One day we miss timed the tides and had to wait for the water to recede so we could cross the causeway to get back on the island after a day exploring the Atlantic side beaches. So we put on bathing suits, jumped off the little wood bridge, and played in the stream with a dozen other people enjoying the strong current at high tide. One of our best memories of the week!
