This is our second time staying here and we have enjoyed both times. The home is comfortable and clean. The kids especially enjoyed the swing. It was super easy to get to Portland.
Good place for a group--NOT accessible
An old house with all the charm and quirks therein. Great for a group--it will sleep 8 in beds, plus a pull-out couch (or two? I didn't look carefully at both). Only two bathrooms, tho, so add that to your calculus. The bathrooms feature clawfoot-style tubs, modified to have a shower option, which means there are curtains on both sides because the tubs are in the middle of the bathrooms. Which means they are absolutely 100% not at all handicapped accessible, nor even easy for those with reduced mobility, as the tub lips are quite high and climbing in with nothing to hold on to is difficult. HOwever, that aside, the house was clean, in a nice neighborhood, easily accessible to Portland and the eastern suburbs, and has a lovely sunroom/dining area off the kitchen. Check in was easy. We recommend this house.
Good location, met our needs size-wise, interesting add-ons in the backyard.
We knew we were getting an older home when we booked, and there was a lot of charm to the place. It would have been helpful to have a manual/notebook to help us know where to find things, procedures for check-in and check-out, etc. The pellet stove kept us warm, we enjoyed the tiny house and were impressed by the treehouse. Our main concern/negative was that, after being assured that we had the place to ourselves, the owner and friends showed up at 2 am to his apt in the backyard and proceeded to fire up the sauna, freaking out our family member staying in the tiny house.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Two of us slept in the treehouse and it was a bit of a challenge getting up the ladder to it, but we were told that by Kenny ahead of time.
Nice neighborhood, beautiful old home. The kitchen had everything we needed.

I reserved this property for 8 adults and 4 children months in advance. I was quoted a price and I paid the price. When I called to make an arrangement to pick up the key I was told I had only paid for the house and it would be $600.00 dollars more to have use of the little house and the tree house. NOT COOL.
The house is a 1910 model with little upgrades done. What has been done was done every haphazardly.
The add said it could accommodate 12 people. There are only setting for on two tables in the house for four each. There is not enough silver for 12 people.
The kitchen area was infested with ants.
One trash can and it was full of yard trimmings.
The lot next to the fire pit was a small junkyard with a few cars and three large, vicious dogs that would attack the fence anytime anyone went near the fence.
Tried to use a blanket from the upstare closet, it was for grass and debris.
The yard had all dead or dying grass.
The overhead light in the downstairs bedroom had been removed and the wires sticking out of the ceiling were covered with wire nuts.
My daughter has used Homeaway four times. Each time the home turned out to be much nicer than expected. This one must have fallen through the crack.
Hi Mel, we are sorry the place didn’t meet your expectations, but I would like to clarify some facts.

What would it cost for the tree house and the little house?
Would the kids be allowed to have tents in the back yard?
I then responded:
Hi, cost is $100 a night plus $50 cleaning fee. And I’m okay with a tent, but don’t want more than 12 people total a night. Let me know what other questions you might have.

We clearly stated in our ad that the house is suited for 8 people and that, if you want to use the treehouse and Tinyhouse to sleep 12, there would be an additional cost - this is why you asked me the question in our thread (we have now changed the listing to include the additional charge, without any options for cheaper rental for less spaces being used).
The house is definitely old, with a shabby sheek aesthetic, and we understand this is not for everyone, but we work hard to make it as comfortable and economic as possible, especially for 12-13 people looking for options like a hot tub, sauna, and additional spaces like a tree house and tiny house. As for things like the garbage, you were simply trying to use our yard debris bin rather than garbage and recycling bins on the side of the house.
I’m also sorry to read your review, as I also worked with your daughter, and she seemed to indicate that the place was going to work well for the family and the kids.
As for not having silverware for 12, sorry about that, we work to make sure our kitchen is well stocked, but it does look like a few pieces of silverware have disappeared over the summer, as we have guests most nights of the summer. We also have professional pest management for the entire property. In an effort to conserve water, we don’t run sprinklers and let nature take its course, which does lead to brown grass in the dry months.
As for things being built haphazardly, sorry you feel that way, as we take great pride in the work we have completed on the property, over the last 13 years, but understand our style isn’t for everyone.
