We loved our woody escape.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Black Bear Chalet. I loved not having a cell signal for a few days to really disconnect from society. Everything was clean and comfortable. Setup and shutdown were pretty simple. Communication with the property owner's was very easy and I would stay here again.
The only problem we encountered was our trash. We were instructed to take our trash with us, which we did, but there wasn't a place to dump it locally. We stopped by a few businesses (a gas station and a convenience store) and they all said there wasn't a public dump (or trash facility). We feared we'd have to drive home (~2hrs) with the trash bag in our truck. Luckily, since it was only one trash bag, the convenience store owner took it for us. This issue is obviously beyond the property owner's control. I would just mention to prospective guests to try and minimize their trash. If we had any extra, traveling home with it would've proven difficult.
Thank you for the nice comments and we hope you come again. Yes, trash is an issue, we always just take it home with us (2 hour drive) as there is no trash service there as you noted. Thanks again for visiting.
Great place to disconnect and relax!
We absolutely loved our visit. The cabin is adorable. Our boys loved all of the black bear decorations. The owners were great in providing recommendations for things to do in the area! If you are looking for a place to relax, disconnect and enjoy the beauty nature has to offer this is the place to stay! The deck provides you the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy yourself. They also have several board games and puzzles which came in handy when a rain storm came through. I highly recommend staying here.
Thank you so much for the kind review, we are glad your boys loved all the black bear items we have all over the cabin. The elevated deck is very nice to relax on and just look out into the trees and whatever wildlife is out there. Thanks for visiting and please come again!
Cabin in the Woods
We were basically using the cabin as a home base for a couple of days. It is peaceful and pleasant. It is off grid and nice to connect with our girls while playing one of the board games there.
Kayaking in Paw Paw
We are a family of 4, plus 1 nephew during this trip, and we all had a good time. The property is fairly big and fun to explore, and it really is in the middle of nowhere; nice and peaceful. The cabin is a bit small, but it has a decent kitchen so it worked. The kids enjoyed the loft and the woman and I liked having our own bedroom😏. It is close to the Potomac and Cacapon rivers with a few good access points for fishing and kayaking, which we did on both. There is no grocery stores, besides a dollar general, nearby; and not many restaurants either, so come prepared. Overall it was a very good time and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the screens and just relax.
Great place to stay
Clean and welcoming. Very nice place
Thank you for taking the time to do a review. We are glad your family had a nice time at the Black Bear Chalet. We try very hard to offer a clean and pleasant rental cabin in the woods experience..
The place itself is nice, very close to the nature and quiet. Nice to be away. However the cabin was not clean. The bathroom toilet was full of big ants, shower pretty dirty, counters with leftovers of food, roaches on the walls, mice and snakes. The container outside in the deck was with at least 3 snakes, witch I consider can be dangerous to other people. And to finish, the cabin does not have AC. Is imposible to be and sleep with that heat.
We totally disagree with this review and do not feel it is accurate. My wife and I are the cleaning crew for our cabin and we personally cleaned it the day before you arrived. There was NO food left on the counter. The shower was cleaned normally. The kitchen counters were wiped down with Clorox wipes. The entire cabin was vacuumed. There are no mice or snakes in the cabin and never have been or will be. We have never seen more than two black snakes on the entire property in 14 years we have owned it (and we told you upfront that one had been seen near (near, NOT inside) the cabin recently) and they are not dangerous; rather, they keep the mice in the woods under control.
We are sorry if you saw an ant in the cabin, we do put ant baits out to eliminate any that wander in. We have never seen roaches on the walls but there are wood roaches in the forest that sometimes come in with the firewood. We have never seen any ants in the toilet, ever and there is an ant bait in the bathroom. As for the cabin not having A/C, it clearly states that it does not in our listing and if you open the windows and turn on the various fans, the cabin cools off very nicely with air flowing through it. In fact, with the ceiling fan running in the bedroom, it can actually get cold at night even in the summer, that is why we have all those blankets there for our guests to use.
When we cleaned the cabin immediately after your visit (just after you departed), I opened the firewood storage container on the deck (the “container outside on the deck”) as I always do, no snakes seen.
What is very odd is all the very very positive reviews we have had from our many many happy clients in the past compared to your review. It just does not add up.
