My girlfriend booked this place for my birthday to get away from the city life for a bit and it did not disappoint! Entire cabin was clean upon arrival and the entire place was stacked with essentials. Check in was easy and the owner's reply to your questions very quickly. Our dogs really enjoyed the stay. They really loved playing in the snow in the backyard which was completely fenced off. The fireplace really set the mood. Not once were we freezing at any point during the snow. We also encountered a couple moose roaming around the property! It was a really cozy cabin to be in with a great view plus the grocery store was just 10 mins away which was really convenient. In all it was a really great experience and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice little cabin to getaway and relax to.
Only thing i recommend to anyone booking this place who are not used to high altitude, is to take precautionary measures to prevent altitude sickness. First night was rough for us, but we got better soon after.
Beautiful location with Amazing views and Wildlife
Michael and Jodine's cabin was exactly as described plus more. The cabin is set in a beautiful wilderness setting with amazing views. The road from Fairplay is in very good condition and easily accessible. We were close enough to run into town easily for groceries and a little shopping as well, very cute town.
Our dog loved the fenced back yard and loved the free wilderness off the leash where she could explore on her own.
Michael and Jodine were very prompt about responding to our emails and shared activity suggestions as well.
We had the opportunity to see a variety if wildlife during our stay, coyotes, wolf, mule deer AND the moose in one of the pictures as promised! We were even more fortunate to view the female moose nursing her calf!! Definitely something we will never forget.
I strongly recommend this location for your future visits!
Fall Mountain Visit
What a wonderful location and nice cabin. We had everything we needed, and then some. Having a fenced backyard was an added bonus for our two dogs traveling with us. The views were great for watching the sunset daily.
One note for cold weather visits is the heating situation. Our first night was quite chilly. We didn't realize the main heat source was the wood stove and didn't build a fire having arrived a little later. After night one, we had it all figured out and enjoyed our stay.
The owner was timely in responding to any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this property.
Beautiful and peaceful
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and peaceful cabin. It was in a great location. We saw two female moose, deer and squirrels. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the decks and also taking some nearby hikes. The dogs had a great time too! We are refreshed and relaxed. We highly recommend stayjng here.
Not as pictured
Check in with owner was fine. Property was overgrown, pics state back yard good for dog but with 3ft tall grass...not so much. Grass close to fire pit would make it unusable. I expected by the pics parking would be close to stairs but not so. The "walkway" to the stairs was rough. Cabin was clean. Went elsewhere.
We would like to address this unfortunate review for future guests. This particular guest rented our cabin to celebrate a 65th birthday. They did not inquire about the terrain the cabin is in. Unfortunately, they didn't disclose they have issues walking and needs assistance and breathing at altitude is an issue. Their email complaint was "It was implied by the pictures I could park close to the stairs, it never occurred to me that to get to the stairs would take 20ft plus 7-8ft vertical incline. I am too tired to say anymore and will email you tomorrow." We were never asked any questions about the property, and never told there were physical issues involved. Had we been asked, we would have clarified the layout of parking and the 20ft walk to the wooden stairs as seen in the pics (which also shows a small incline).
We'd also like to address the "overgrown" comment. Again, this is a remote mountain cabin and the yard is kept in a natural state (you can see this in the pictures with the moose in our listing, one of which is inside the fenced backyard). If you don't feel your dog would enjoy a natural mountain setting with tall grass, then yes, this would not be the cabin for you. The fireplace was definitely "unusable" for their stay, but not because of the fire pit, but because the county had enforced a fire ban to keep our forests safe from wildfires (link to check for bans is in our listing as well as the numerous signs on the way in to Park County stating there is a fire ban in place). We had guests using the fire pit all summer up until the fire ban was in place with no issues or complaints.
The expectation of this guest was a paved, flat walkway with a manicured lawn, which if asked, we would have clarified all of this. The communication from the guest did not offer us the chance to allow them to make an informed decision, they made assumptions based on pictures and did not ask specifics to prepare for the health issues they experience. Had we known about the issues we would have definitely suggested another destination as a cabin at 11,000 ft (which is stated in our listing) and a remote dirt road is not conducive to health issues with breathing and walking.
For future guests, if you have questions or concerns, please ask us in advance. We want everyone to have a great stay, but we can't clarify what we don't know you have questions about if we aren't asked. As the review states, the owner communication was fine and the cabin was clean, but they made assumptions on pictures rather than just asking. We are available and we respond quickly, all we ask is to give us the chance to answer any questions you may have vs making assumptions, especially if there may be physical or health issues involved.
