A One Night Stay
This was our third trip to CR in the last 4 years for our family of 5. With 21 days to plan, we decided to use this property for a 3 night stay as we travelled from the Uvita area to the Manzanillo area. We were informed that we would be staying in house #3 about 3 weeks prior to our arrival. We were kindly greeted and shown the property at check-in. The only house pictured in the listing is house #1. House #3 was large enough for the 5 of us, but was not what were expecting. There was a strong smell of mildew in the pillows and furniture, cockroaches and spiders throughout, and dogs barking through the night. There were no fans as pictured for house #1. The wifi was spotty and only could be accessed from the outside. We have stayed in properties with open air concept and have slept under mosquito nets in the past, and it was as expected and described in those listings. We decided to leave the next morning. Thankfully, We were able to check in to our next VRBO 2 nights early. I would suggest to Jose and his family to breakdown the three properties on this website so clients know what to expect. It is misleading as described. Until this is corrected, I cannot recommend this property to others.
Amazing immersive family vacation
Our family of 7 (ages 12-19) wanted a fun, relaxing and educational vacation and boy am I glad we booked Natural Paradise. It was absolutely perfect! Jose, Sergio and their family were such welcoming and thoughtful hosts. The breakfasts brought to us each morning - traditional Costa Rican food - wasenjoyed so much by all that the teenagers actually started getting out of bed extra early in anticipation! We did the farm tour and the canyoning tour during our stay. They were incredible! The best part was that Jose and Sergio were there with us answering our constant questions and showing us things along the way that we would never have even noticed if we had been exploring on our own. The house is comfortable and well equipped. It had everything we needed. Highly, highly recommend!
Great house, even better bird watching!
Natural Paradise is absolutely amazing. The best bird watching experience I've ever had and you barely need to leave porch. Jose is an expert guide! He can name any bird by it's song or appearance!
If you are looking for a more cultural experience this is the place to go! The family that owns the farm is so hospitable and kind. They offered to cook us traditional Costa Rican meals, and you have the option to eat dinner with them if you'd like. I highly recommend eating dinner with them as they're extremely nice and fun to talk with. They also offer many tours, such as birdwatching, canyoning, waterfall rappelling, white water rafting and of their farm which includes Sugar Cane, Coffee, etc. We even tried sugar cane straight from the stalk.
The views from the house and farm are breathtaking. The house is clean and comfortable. There is a washing machine, stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator, TV & WiFi. Up the hill you have a great view of the Central Valley and Turrialba volcano.
The hammocks were perfect for a nap or watching the birds fly by, which included Hummingbirds, Toucans, Orioles, Jay's, Motmots and various other species. This place is top notch lodging in Turrialba. Town is about 20mins by car, but we prefered the local community!
Best birdwatching we had in our 2 wk stay in Costa Rica
This place by far was the most productive birdwatching site in our two week stay in Costa Rica and we were only birdwatching for a couple hours! Host Jose Calvo offers full day bird tours and he was with us identifying about 45 birds (27 new for our trip and most of the new ones we didn't see elsewhere) in just 1 1/2 hrs in the morning before we had to leave. Jose has seen over 100 birds on the property - which is on the edge of deep rainforest so ideal for birding. The house was comfortable and furnished with everything we needed, even a washing machine (and place to hang clothes to dry). Breakfast was included and was delicious. We ate at the table outside on the porch but our avid birdwatchers had a hard time eating for all the interruptions with bird sightings! We also purchased a sandwich & fruit lunch for on the road it was delicious as well. Jose has 6 siblings and many of them are commercial tour guides and his sister Jamie offers a coffee/cocoa tour which we did not have time to take. The farm has a coffee plantation right by the house, has lots of sugar cane, and enough cocoa plants to use for the extended family. Two rivers run near the house.
Nice house - nice hosts.
We enjoyed our stay at "Natural Paradise." For the most part it was a quiet, relaxing stay. Jose and family were very nice. We didn't need all the five bedrooms but everything was quite comfortable and the facilities were what was needed. It seems that Ticos don't expect much in the way of lighting. This was our sixth HomeAway stay for this trip and only one had really good lighting, especially in the kitchen. It is not easy to cook or wash dishes when the light is behind and above you and not very bright. Otherwise, we would consider staying here again if we were going to be in the Turrialba area. Oh yes, and it is definitely a good idea to have a vehicle with good clearance as the road down to the house has some big bumps.
Natural Paradise was all we hoped it would be and more!
The house was the original home for the family who owns the property, so it definitely helped us have the true Costa Rican experience. Jose took care of everything for us, from the wonderful excursions to a recommendation for our anniversary dinner.
Every morning we watched for the beautiful birds to visit, then Yeimy (pronounced Jamie) would bring an amazing breakfast! She was very kind to share with us about her family and their community.
Jose, along with his brothers Sergio and Cesar, helped our family make memories that will last a lifetime! The first day Jose took my wife and adult daughter on the farm tour, which was beautiful, educational and so fun! At the same time Sergio and Cesar took myself and our son & 2 neices repelling down some nearby waterfalls. It was amazing! On the short trip to the river we even saw a small ash eruption from the volcano and then a two-toed sloth that was resting at the top of a tree.
The next day we enjoyed the canopy zip-line excursion, which was breathtaking. After lunch in Turrialba, Jose took us through a coffee plantation (saw 2 more sloths) to a beautiful waterfall. Jumping in from partway up the fall was a favorite for several in our group!
The rafting looked awesome, but we didn't have time to try it. Our other day we drove to the beach near Limon to see more wildlife and try some snorkeling.
The wonderful breakfast is included with renting the house, and we also ordered dinner on a couple of evenings. After one of these meals we heard some singing in the distance. Sergio was getting married the following week and his father and a friend were serenading the bride-to-be outside her house. As is the custom, after a few love songs, she opens the door and the two families enjoy a fun evening together.
As other posts have suggested, if you are renting a vehicle make sure it is 4-wheel drive. And there are flying and crawling bugs, but they never really bothered us. Each bed has a net around it so it's fine. Also having the second bathroom and a washing machine made the stay for our group of 6 adults even more comfortable.
If you are wanting to experience the natural beauty and adventure that Costa Rica offers and appreciate its people and their culture, I cannot think of a better place than Natural Paradise!
Dans Natural Paradise vous aurez une expérience magnifique, avec la nature autour, beaucoup d'oiseaux, et des vues spectaculaires, le meilleur du rafting et profiter de notre tour de canyoning dans notre canyon privated.
