Great villa with wonderful garden and stunning view
With my family I’ve spent 1 week in the mid of June. As soon as we enter in the garden and in the villa we loved the place and the location. The house is in a garden in front of the ocean and is always breezed by the trade wind even when the sun is shining. The infinity pool offers the possibility to spend the week in the house but we enjoyed Antigua visiting several beaches and doing sailing with Ondecksailing. The house host 6 people in a very comfortable way and has a very well equipped kitchen. Everything was perfect and thanks to Amanda for hosting us and Mitzie and Titus for providing us the fish and the charcoal for the last day barbecue.
Thank you so much Laura for your lovely review on Villa Azura. We are so glad your family enjoyed their stay and also ventured out around the island to explore.
You were very easy guests to communicate with which makes life so much easier for me!
Hope to see you return to Antigua for another holiday.
A beautiful villa
Villa Azura is a magical place for a holiday. We were a family of six ranging from 2 to 70 years old and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Every detail of the villa has been carefully considered and beautifully finished. The bedrooms are stunning, each one configured to provide a view out over the ocean from its air conditioned four-poster bed. The outside showers are also lovely - we all enjoyed showering under the stars! The tropical gardens are idyllic and the sunsets from the patio / rooftop seating will live long in our memories. The infinity pool provides a perfect escape from the Antiguan sun and also proved to be an ideal place to teach our daughter to swim. Mitzie (the housekeeper) was attentive to our every need and adores children! Titus (the gardener) is friendly and always has a smile on his face. Amanda (the owner) was incredibly responsive.
Antigua has plenty of activities on offer, both on and off the water. Kitesurfing at Green Island - one of best spots in the world - was a particular highlight of our visit. The team from the local 40 Knots Kitesurfing School provided a first class service (including 1-1 training and equipment rental) in a laid back but professional manner. My instructor picked me up by speedboat at a jetty only five minutes by car from the villa - as far as kitesurfing experiences go, it’s pretty hard to beat!
We also rented a variety of sailing dinghies and kayaks from the nearby Nonsuch Bay resort. The equipment was of very good quality and the staff were accommodating.
Long Bay is the local beach (one minute by car), and is one of the best on the island. It’s the perfect place for a swim or a pizza at Mama Pasta, which overlooks the bay. Half Moon Bay, Fryes Beach and Pigeon Beach are all are must-visits and are easy to get to by car. We took a half day trip to Rendezvous Bay with a local boat company; it’s only a short ride from English Harbour and was well-worth doing as we had the white sands all to ourselves.
We dined at a number of very good restaurants, particularly Catherine’s Cafe and Jacqui O’s - both are beachside with marvellous views and very good modern European cuisine. We also found some gems in English Harbour, a short drive away.
My mother suffered a broken foot on the penultimate day of our holiday. We can’t thank Amanda (the owner) and Mitzie enough for quickly connecting us with a local doctor, who ensured we had speedy treatment at St John’s A&E.
We will return!
Thank you so much Taylor family for your lovely review. Am so pleased your stay at Azura was so successful, although sad to hear about your mother's broken foot!
Hope to see you back at Azura another day in the not too distant future.
this was our fourth year staying at villa azura.
we are two couples, 57-60 years old. well traveled and discerning.
villa azura overlooks the atlantic ocean with incredible views of whale watching (march to may), rainbows after a rain and beautiful sunsets.
the infinity pool overlooks the oceans and is large enough for laps. not a plunge pool!
the three bedrooms are all equitable with there own bathrooms with outdoor showers with gardens! speaking of gardens, the palm trees, bougainvillea and wisteria are so lovely and we have hummingbirds, cranes and osprey as our visitors!
we can walk 10 min. down hill to long bay beach if we want beach time as well.
we love the al fresco dining and cooking is fun and easy in the gourmet kitchen and large charcoal bbq.
the internet is actually very good! we brought a blue tooth bosch speaker down and listened to premium spotify daily and we downloaded two movies and had movie night under the stars!
we highly recommend villa azura. and we will be back next year!
Thank you so much for your great review. I guess that you must all love Azura by now, you have been there so many times :)
See you again in 2020, hopefully.
Very disappointed, lousy internet, no tv for news, dirty, unheated swimming pool, old rusted BBQ, not one knive was sharp, not even a sharpener was around, over priced for the value. The italian restaurant food and service was good. Deep sea fishing was a ripoff.
Hans, I am most disappointed in your comments since you and your brother-in-law both came to Azura in January 2018 to see if you wanted to rent Azura, so you knew exactly what to expect. I also find it strange that I received an email from you during your stay, saying "Hi Amanda we are at your villa and it is beautiful ....". This is the first (and only) negative review we have had in 7 years.
Dirty? Really? Mitzie is an obsessive cleaner and cleans the house every day. Our pool was completely rebuilt 6 months ago so is like new and is professionally cleaned weekly (also stated in the information you were sent before arrival). The house was repainted a month before you arrived.
BBQ: All real BBQ grills will have some rust if not used constantly and just need to be brushed and oiled before use. We provide the necessary tools to do this. We are of course next to the sea so rust is inevitable. None of our regular BBQ users have found this an issue.
Heated swimming pool: Very few pools are heated in Antigua - in fact I know of none. If you had said that was a vital component for your vacation enjoyment I would have told you that it was not heated. You never asked.
TV: If you had read the 'welcome' information that was sent to Claude you would have seen we only have TV for playing DVD's, as these days most people watch the news etc. on their laptops/phones/ipads etc. We recently conducted a survey of our previous guests about the need for cable TV and the overwhelming response was it was not needed.
Internet: Our internet is the best that can be secured for our location and you will not find it much faster at other properties in Antigua. Because this is not Miami, London or Montreal, it can sometimes be a bit erratic. We have however always found it adequate and have made it clear in our 'welcome information' that it is not suitable for streaming videos.
Deep sea fishing has nothing to do with our villa, I am sorry you felt ripped off.
Over-priced: I will point out that your group of 4 people received a generous reduction in the rental rates, given that this was 'high season', following your haggling and constantly changing your plans and dates prior to arrival.
Villa Azura Getaway
Our stay at Villa Azura was great. Amanda did a fantastic job in
helping us plan our trip. The property and setting was beautiful. The staff was attentive to our needs. Overall A+ experience.
Thank you so much Jack for a lovely review. I am glad your vacation was a success and that you enjoyed your stay at Azura.
WOW! AZURA IS AMAZING !
We arrived in the afternoon on Christmas Day, which wasn't the plan!
Some drones sighted at Gatwick delayed our departure ultimately for 5 days! And so we finally got to the Villa, relieved to be there, to be welcomed by the delightful housekeeper Mitzi with a batch of Rum Punch and supper in the fridge.
We dumped our luggage in our rooms and as we swam in the glorious pool with the view across the sea and the sun setting, we took in our beautiful surroundings & all the stress of the journey melted away !
Nothing had been to much trouble! When contacting the owner Amanda everything, we were told, was simply rearranged with Mitzi and she would be there to welcome us and show us the ropes.
So finally our family could relax and enjoy being together in this luxurious villa for the few days we had left of our curtailed stay.
Villa Azura is beautifully designed, furnished and appointed in every department. Mitzi had made a delicious pumpkin soup and pre-shopped for us, with the fridge & freezer stocked, as requested. We had also ordered a wonderful supper of fresh ravioli, salad and deserts prepared by chef Jonti which she had brought up to the Villa.
All of the family absolutely loved our stay from grandparents to 3 year old grandson and as we finally ate our Turkey on Boxing day, we just wished it could have been longer! Short but very very sweet!
Thank you so much for such a lovely review. Considering the trials and tribulations you all went through to get to Antigua I really appreciate the positive feedback! Hopefully you will return in the not too distant future and stay at Azura again.
