Property under repair does not make a good first impression
The positives: this Home-Away is on the beach; we are in FL in March after dealing with a long VT winter; the price of our stay was affordable.
The negatives: The building is old in need of repairs. It needs up grades and a lot of repairs. There is work being done to make those extensive up grades and repairs.
If you are in need of a relatively clean place to stay on the beach; then you can make this property work for you.
If you need luxury and all the modern conveniences; then go else where.
Daytona Beach Dump With A View
VRBO Pictures look nice: 90% of what you pay for is fabulous oceanfront balcony. Rest of unit ranges from acceptable to downright nasty. And there's a reason there are no bathroom photos.
Hotel complex is decrepit and dangerous. Signs saying they are repairing concrete work after hurricane Micheal which occurred over TWO years ago. Exposed rebar, chunks missing from ceilings, railings taped over with duct tape, 4x4's holding up roofs: building inspectors must be getting paid off! Don't park near building to avoid concrete chunks falling on your car. Guests throw cigarette butts, bottle caps, other trash wherever.
Noise from hot cars and motorcycles happens day and night. Someone banged on door 10:30pm and ran away. Rude guests laugh and scream at all hours on outdoor walkways.
inside layout is ok for a couple. Living room: decent TV, lots of channel, sits on only dresser in unit, all drawers stuffed with towels and blankets. Sofa and easy chair old and should be replaced. Had to sit on pillows to make sofa usable. Fold out bed will send you to hospital. 70's coffee table top guaranteed to catch crumbs and sand. End table is old giant behemoth. Living room ocean view is great, but you need jaws of life to get slider open. Two chairs and small table on balcony, but one chair partly torn in half.
Kitchen alright. Enough dishes and cookware. Tiny sink, no dishwasher, ancient fridge, tiny cheapo microwave, some stove burners don't work.
Warning: Office controls the availability of AC.
Two double beds like hammocks, sagging and mushy. Linens cheap and worn, elastic on fitted sheets is shot. Maybe a blood stain on the comforter. Can't open the blinds because outside walkway looks in. Bedroom windows no longer opens. No dresser so clothes storage impossible. Clothes closet used for mops, brooms, and filthy dustpan. 16" TV in bedroom.
Disgusting bathroom. Old tub, black mold and mildew between tiles, edge. Wear flip flops, avoid touching anything. Faucets, shower head, drain black with rust and crud. Towels gray, stained. No ventilation fan. Hot water ok.
Place is rental cash cow for owner, milking it for all it's worth. They make no investment in improvements, upkeep, and furnishings, and could care less about your comfort. I'm going to report them to VRBO. Skip this unit, and any in Daytona Inn Beach Resort (resort?), pray for when they tear this decrepit dump down.
I’m very sorry you had a less than desirable experience and was surprised after reading your feedback considering all the communications prior to your arrival. Check in instructions specifically mention any issues upon check in to contact me. If a guest feels my unit or building does not meet their needs, I allow the guest the option to seek out other lodging options. When guests are on vacation I want guests to feel comfortable. I would have gladly accommodated you given your strong views of the facility but there was no communication. Concerning hurricane damage there are still repairs to be made to this building and your suppositions on the safety and lack of inspections are your opinion not a professional. The local municipality partnered with the association to earmark repairs required after the hurricane and those repairs were completed. Insurance may not be your area of expertise but sometimes insurance companies try to limit claims payouts thus projects tend to slow. We have 3 buildings on the property North, South, and East, 3 buildings of the 2 building’s repairs have been repaired. If work is being done on the building, I contact guests with an explanation of the ongoing work and they decide if they would like to keep their booking. When you booked the unit, I communicated repairs and you had the option to cancel your reservation with no cancelation fees. Prior to your arrival I was in town and stayed in the unit making repairs and improvements and left 3 days prior to your arrival. I respectfully disagree with your descriptions related to the ascetic and accommodations, but I do understand people are people and we all have different expectations and assumptions. As for the beds I have not had negative comments on the mattresses and upon my arrival was prepared to replace them but found them to be in excellent shape having no issues resting throughout the night. I do understand comfort of a mattress is very personal to the individual. This building is near the entertainment district in the heart of Daytona. For many folks who stay in Daytona, this location is a plus for them. They like being able to walk to many of the fun destinations in town. Daytona is known for motorized vehicles I’m sorry the sounds of the Daytona were a distraction. I would strongly suggest prior to booking you look at what’s included in the rental and type of accommodations. This building does not accommodate 5-star at your price point.
Arrived to our condo almost 3 hrs late due to plane delay.
Upon arriving, we were trying to get in our door because of owners directions being confusing. Finally got in and checked it out, took parking pass down to put in car, it was gone, been towed. This probably happened in a 10 minute span, located car $20 for cab, $160 to get car back. Not happy beginning, condo was not the cleanest, torn patio curtains, doors were had to open going to balcony, due to rust. Know Harvey played a big role but feel they haven't put enough effort into repairs. Was out checking shops out few days later, had a big storm and come back to a flooded condo, no mop to clean it up had to use towels to dry it out. Needless to say will not be coming back to this condo even tho it was privately owned, they did not help us out much. Only good thing is the view was beautiful and the beach was close so did enjoy that. We did see a cockroach our last night but at least it was the last night.
The unit was not luxury by any means but for the price and the ocean view it was worth the trip.
