Great place to stay!
We had a wonderful trip to TCI and Artemis Retreat was a big part of our great experience. The house is cute and cozy - perfect for a family of four. With three bedrooms there is a good amount of space for some privacy. It was nice to be able to prepare food, clean clothes, and relax on the hammock in between our island adventures. We loved the deck, outdoor shower, and location. The beach feels like it’s right around the corner. We rented a car for the week and were easily able to access multiple beaches and snorkel sites around the island. Very relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
The charme needs fresh makeup
Positive points: the location close to the beach, in a quiet and pleasant neighborhood. The images of the house correspond to the real conditions. Excellent availability of Sorin, the manager on site for advice and information.
Negative points: because before our arrival the house was not occupied, we had water quality problems (bad smell), impossible to take a decent shower or brush our teeth during the first 4 days. The outside shower doesn't work. The air con and ceiling fans cannot lower the temperature correctly during the night. The house needs a good renovation - the price even low remains high compared to the comfort and equipment of the house. The veranda becomes mosquito territory at the end of the day - a pity for open-air dinners. No one is talking openly about the fact that Hurricane Irma reduced the depth of the beach by more than 20 meters - the photos on the site need to be updated, along with this information.
Lots of potential, chances to spend an excellent holiday provided that the owners make all the necessary renovations as soon as possible.
Thank you for your input. Consider the following points:
1.Water is provided via a water catchment system, which utilizes available rainwater (and top-ups during the dry season). The island water can have a bit of a mineral smell. Our property manager has fixed the shower head problem (mineral buildup).
2. Since we purchased the cottage, we have slowly upgraded every part of it (replacement of bathroom fixtures, washer/dryer, furniture; yearly refreshing of linens and towels; upgrading of window coverings; repainting; construction of two sets of driveway gates ...) We spent thousands of dollars on on property cleanup post Hurricane Irma.
3. Upon booking confirmation, guests are provided with a detailed guest guide. Included, are post-hurricane updates, such as alternate routes to the wider expanses of the beach. Some areas gained breadth, while others lost it.
4. Summer in the Caribbean is very hot. We have a wall-mounted air conditioner. There are ceiling fans in every room, as well as several portables. All exterior doors and windows must be closed when operating this system. Otherwise, the system won’t work.
5. Mosquitoes are a normal part of a hot and humid island summer. Measures to deal with this are outlined in our guest guide.
Our property is a small, clean, private family cottage. Potential guests are given the opportunity to ask additional questions before booking.
Artemis Retreat was a good choice for our family of 4. It was a two minute walk to a beautiful beach with snorkeling right there! Ruth was helpful and responsive when we had questions. Great vacation!
Relaxation in paradise!
My wife and I stayed 5 nights at Ruth's cottage, which is located in the Leeward neighborhood of Turks & Caicos. The cottage was perfect in every aspect; Ruth has thought of everything - from every possible kitchen / cooking utensil - to comfortable beds, bedding, towels, etc. We cooked all but two meals during our vacation, and we had a blast eating outside on the front porch surrounded by nature. The cottage lies on a fairly large property, with ample shade, which is truly a necessity as the sun does get intense. The porch has comfortable seating to lounge and have coffee (and a glass of wine!) as well as a table with benches for a more sit down dinner. We used the bikes to bike into town to get fresh pastries at Caicos Bakery, as well as to explore the surrounding Leeward neighborhood. The beach chairs and umbrella were easy to transport on a daily basis since the beach is less than 5 minute walk from the cottage! The beach is spectacular- the water "glows" in a turquoise / green hue, and is the some of the most transparent water we have seen in our travels. We had originally planned to check out a lot of different beaches (hence our rental car) but found that there was no need to move around as we were truly spoiled with the best beach. Not sure if it was the time of year or if the sand has come back, but the beach that is walking distance from the cottage is fabulous (easily accessible, not over-crowded, super calm water, i.e. no waves). The interior of the cottage is clean and comfortable. There is a sofa to relax and TV to watch if it rains. The outdoor shower is perfect, and we used it everyday. The cottage pretty much aerates itself if you follow the instructions in the guidebook of leaving the windows open. We didn't need to use the AC at all as the temperature was pleasant throughout our stay. I was initially concerned about mosquitos after reading some of the other reviews, so we brought 2 cans of insect repellant. But we had no issues with mosquitos; not a single bite, and after the first night, we didn't even bother to spray ourselves. We had a fantastic vacation, and we are so happy that we found Ruth's cottage! We look forward to coming back and visiting soon!
Thanks so much for your kind review. We are always to striving to provide our guests with a calm and relaxing space. We really hope that you will return in the future.
Best place in Provo!
I spent a week with my family to Artemis retreat. It is in a wonderful position, close to the worderful Grace bay beach. The house was great, very comfortable, with all the things you need. I already miss the relaxing amaca on the patio! A very special Thank you to Ruth, the owner, her kindness has been super special. I will always remember what you have done for us. Fabio & Co.
So pleased that you finally got to enjoy the cottage. I hope that you and your family will stay with us in the future.
We cannot possibly recommend the Artemis Retreat enough! If you are searching for a low-key and quiet vacation - stay here!
The cottage is well appointed with everything you need. The mornings are a heavenly treat on the veranda with a steaming cup of coffee accompanied by a lovely tropical breeze rustling through the canopy of trees.
We traveled with four adults and each of us loved the beautifully peaceful and private setting. The space is suitable and not overwhelming. We had proper linens, towels, plenty of dishes, kitchen appliances and a bbq which was fabulous as we prepared most meals at the house.
We are all beach/sun people so having the beach and water so close in proximity is a bonus!
Ruth is an absolute pleasure to communicate with and answers emails promptly.
When we return to TCI - we will definitely book the Artemis Retreat again!
Thank you, Ruth!
Your Montana guests,
Kara & Garry
