The Historic Lodge is located in a beautiful location called "Summer Haven." We had the river on one side of us and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. The Lodge had a wrap around porch where you could enjoy your morning cup of coffee and watch the fish play in the river.
The Lodge itself needs some major maintenance. The dryer knob was striped and we could not turn the dryer on, the light over the kitchen table would not come on, the air conditioner in the kitchen is not big enough to cool the space in the heat of the day, pots, pans, and dishes were put away with dried food on them, the kitchen sink kept holding water and making gurgling noises, the grill outside needs to be replaced, the ladder to the bunk beds was broken, the mattresses were very uncomfortable (all need to be replaced), the bathroom sink with the tub and shower kept stopping up and the cold water would barely run, and many areas of the floor in the lodge and on the porch are weak. The TV and DVD player would not work.
The Historic Lodge just needs some "TLC" to make it a really enjoyable place to stay. It has a lot of history and charm.
Do not go to this place/ not historical. The place is falling apart
Historical does not mean dilapidated. Placed smelled like urine upon arrival. So much dust my son had to leave, he was unable to sleep in the environment. Management was not concerned until my 3rd phone call. They did eventually place our group in another beautiful home but only after spending 2 horrible nights at this place. There was a rain leak inside the home. I could go on but it’s just too exhausting

This is what dreams are made of!
Okay so those of you looking at the reviews on this property and seeing that they are sort of mixed I'm about to give you the low down. If you are wanting luxury and perfection this is not the place for you. However, those of you who want something different outside of the cookie cutter condo atmosphere this baby is a gem!! Wrap around porches, detached kitchen, screen porch, original everything!! Did I mention it was built in the late 1800's😮 The claw foot tub is big enough for my 6'5" husband to soak comfortably in. Also, you have the river in front of the house that is absolutely beautiful and at low tide you can find beautiful conch shells. My kids loved the tide pools at the river! My husband fished and caught snapper and flounder. To the back of the house is the ocean. There has been a large wall of rocks installed to prevent future erosion of the beach. So you cannot walk directly from the house to the beach, but it is literally less than a 2 min walk straight down the little road until you are on the beach. It is almost like having a private beach because it was mostly just the neighbors that used the beach there. We stayed 2 weeks and were so sad to go home! I literally cannot say enough good things about this place! It is so beautiful on the porches and the sea breeze is amazing! For reference I was traveling with my husband and my 6 children (20, 18, 16, 8, 5, 1). They all adored the place and there was plenty of room to sleep and we didn't even use one bedrooms because 2 of the teenager decided to share a room. Ok so just some random stuff: Don't bring any towels there are at list 50 bath towels, wash clothes, hand towels, kitchen towels, and even a few beach towels. The kitchen has a large assortment of pots and pans, nice microwave, stove, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, toaster, serving trays, you name it and it's there. The washer and dryer are awesome! It has 2 refrigerators!! We kept food in one and drinks in the other. It has a large pantry for all of your dry goods. It has an outdoor shower on the side of the house to rinse off from the beach and then you can walk straight into the bathroom from the porch and take a shower. Okay here is my very short list of cons: (1) The air conditioning does not get below 78° during the day, night is comfortable. (2) yard in front is full of sand spurs. (3) needs a dock on the river. All in all we will definately be back!!
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope you will stay again.
Historical Beach Hideaway
This beach house was exactly what we had envisioned. It is an ancient structure but it is in good repair. It has a few bumps and wrinkles, it's not perfect, but it was not surprising to us and didn't detract from the beach experience. We loved it and we already miss being there.
Old Florida relaxing beach house
My husband and I rented the house for a week. It was the most relaxing, chill week we have had in a long time. We absolutely loved sitting on the back porch every morning drinking our coffee and every evening watching the sunset drinking our cocktails. The breezes on the side porches where amazing. We ate every meal out on the side porch. You could hear and see the ocean. AMAZING!!!! It is truly a one of a kind rare find. If you are looking for complete beach and porch time this is the place for you. The dryer was not working when we got there. We put a call in they came out and checked it. Then the AMAZING Rachel she oversee's the property for the owner came over to check on us and to let us know a repair guy would be out to fix it. And boom it was fixed and running great. I do not have one bad thing to say we really enjoyed our week. We will definitely be back. I hope this gem is available for many years to come!
One side note if you re looking for a luxury place you may want to get a condo(boo) it is an old house with amazing character. May not be for everyone but we found it to be paradise :-)
Needs some major maintenance items addressed. Not recommended for anyone with very young children.
While this property was very quaint with lots of historical charm and a great location, it is in desperate need of some basic TLC and maintenance. Some of the basic safety issues were doors that don't lock and some that were almost impossible to shut, a missing center rung on the bunk bed ladder making it unusable, a broken chair seat in the kitchen and exposed nails on the remnants of an old dock. These are just a few of the maintenance issues that should be addressed before someone gets hurt. We also never had WiFi as advertised. We called the management company 2 days in a row and no one ever showed up to get it up and running as promised. This was a hardship as my daughter-in-law was supposed to call into an on-line business meeting.
Despite the state of the house, we had fun spending time with family and sitting on the porch enjoying the sunsets. I would also like to add that we have rented dozens of houses as an extended family through VRBO and this is the first time I've written a negative review.
