This is a charming bungalow with lots of nooks and crannies. There was always a breeze coming in one side of the house. Loved to sit on the window seat in the screened porch and read. Location was perfect. We walked every day and enjoyed learning the history of Castine. There is a golf cart tour of Castine, about an hour, which was well worth the price ($10). I got a wonderful overview and was able to walk to interesting sights. Dining options are limited. There is a wonderful bakery on Main Street. The “take out shack” on the pier was where we ordered meals to go and took them back to enjoy at the Bungalow. The Wharf had delicious fish and chips and haddock sandwiches. We were able to sit on their deck and enjoy the sailboat traffic. Great spot to enjoy a laid back, relaxing vacation.
So glad you enjoyed your Castine vacation. Castine is a special place. You are welcome to stay in our bungalow next summer. You were top notch guests.
Nice cottage in town
We enjoyed ourselves for two weeks in this tidy little cottage in the coastal town of Castine. Every morning, I would walk the quiet streets. This is the kind of place where children can bicycle independently without their parents worrying for their safety. The town itself looks out onto a working harbor -beautiful ocean views! The beach is quiet and you can drive right onto it. There are brave souls that swim in the cove.
As for the house itself, it has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bedroom downstairs has a queen bed and while I found it comfy, my husband found it too soft. The linens are extremely basic and could definitely use updating. The bathroom downstairs has a shower/tub combination that worked fine. The problem is that this is the ONLY shower in the house. The upstairs full bathroom has a tub only, (no shower wand). The two bedrooms upstairs are comfortable as well, again, linens very basic.
The kitchen has brand new pots and pans, the cutlery and dishes a mix of mismatched items. My one complaint is about the knives as none were of good (sharp)quality.
The WiFi worked well, there are 2 TVs in the house, one in the living room and one in the study/den. Speaking of the den, which we did not use, it contains a futon sofa that could be used as a fourth bedroom.
We used the grill once and it worked fine. We used the washer/dryer down the steep basement stairs and even hung clothes to dry outdoors. A real treat for me!
All in all, we had a great two weeks here in this house! The owner, Bruce, was quick to respond to any question I had. I highly recommend this cottage and would love to return here in the future!
So glad you enjoyed your stay in Castine. It is a very special place.
Thank you so much for the "5 star" rating. We appreciate all of you feedback. We would welcome a return stay in our cottage. You were great guests.
Cozy cottage, well located and well equipped
The owner represented his property very well. This is a great cottage which is well maintained, well located in Castine and fully equipped for a pleasant stay in a wonderful town. We would happily stay in this house again. The owner provided great detail on the house, its operation and left us great tips on things to do in Maine.
Thank you for your review. You left our house in perfect condition. Hope you return sometime in the future.
The house was Great, clean, spacious and perferct for a family of 5
This house is well taken care of and has all the amenities you want when Visiting Maine. It is in a perfect location and Only blocks from the water and able to walk anywhere in town. Thank you for the great week!!
Lovely week in July
A friend and I spent a week here last month. It's a lovely house, very bright and airy, with a nicely appointed kitchen, comfortable beds upstairs and down, and furniture much nicer than what you find in many vacation rentals. Was also very clean. The house is located on a side street just beyond the Maine Maritime Academy and is within walking distance of Castine's Main Street, and Perkins Street (waterfront) is also very close. Nice to have Internet connection in the house. All in all very pleasant and we hope to return.
Wonderful sisters getaway location
For the last six years my sister and I have made an annual week long trip to stay at this cottage in Castine and we would not dream of staying anywhere else. It is always clean and fresh for our arrival and has every amenity we need including consistent wifi and two DVD players. In the late afternoon we enjoy walking down to the harbor to take in the lovely gardens, local architecture and scenic views. It truly feels like we are coming "home" when we walk through the doors and we spend the rest of the year looking forward to our return.
