Fun on the water.
My family recently had a really nice vacation together at Bill’s cabin. Of all the things I enjoyed most was kayaking on Big Pond. I recently bought a new kayak and was super glad I brought it with me. Along with my daughter we explored the pond and access stream connected to the pond. I love nature and it was a joy going out nearly every morning on the water. I can also recommend near by Otis Reservoir.
Lastly, Bill was great at communicating with me and always responded very quickly.
Great log cabin in the woods
My wife and 2 sons were pleasantly surprised with our stay. The house is clean and the property is huge. Nice trails in the back and a dock at the lake. Screened in back porch with a picnic table is where we had all of our meals. 2 bedrooms downstairs and a loft upstairs comfortably fit my family. Overall a nice week in the Berkshires.
Peace and relaxation
We spent a week in this cabin and enjoyed our time very much. Overall, this cabin deserves a solid 4 stars in our opinion.
Location -- The secluded location was great and relative proximity to Lenox even better. We enjoyed a BSO concert at Tanglewood, toured The Mount, and attended a delightful performance at Shakespeare & Co., in addition to enjoying the cabin and its property. Very nearby, there is a grocery, hardware and restaurant/bar.
Cabin amenities -- We enjoyed the porches, and especially enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace on chilly, rainy days. (Split firewood is for sale at the grocery, but bring a small handsaw to trim your kindling from fallen branches.) The queen bed in the loft is very comfortable. The kitchen and its appliances functioned well, and the grill is charcoal not gas, hooray! While there were cobwebs (it is a cabin in the woods, after all), generally it was clean, especially in the areas that matter most - kitchen, bathrooms and bed.
"Curb Appeal" -- When we arrived in the waning light of a dreary day after 10 hours on the road, my first reaction was "This is it?". In fact, at first I wasn't sure we were in the right spot. The front and back porch furniture (which, as it turns out, was reasonably comfortable) is weather-beaten and a random mix of pieces, the "balcony" off the loft is not somewhere that we wanted to spend any time, what appears to have been landscaped areas were overgrown (again, it's a cabin in the woods), and we bottomed-out in the driveway (not a problem for folks who are in a truck or SUV, but we had to be very careful in our car). Some of those things are an easy fix, some are not. None were deal-breakers, just not what we'd expected. The inside, thankfully, is well-appointed.
Lighting -- Because of its wooded location, there's not a lot of natural light inside, even on a sunny day. There are many switches, but it's confusing to figure out which turn outlets on and off for lamps plugged into them. As the week went by, we got used to it.
Location -- Although a waterfront property, the cabin itself is a bit of a walk from the water and does not have a water view. The trail to the gazebo overlooking Benton Pond was through beautiful woods, but may be a little challenging for some. The trail down to the canoe at the bottom of the cliff was tricky, especially while carrying paddles, etc... Paddling around the pond was a joy, though, with lots of wildlife on display.
The house is very comfortable and pleasantly furnished.
The house is in a lovely wooded setting with a wrap around porch, including a spaciou, comfortable screened porch. There is a great hiking trail to a gazebo and lake and access to another lake for boating and swimming. We appreciated the artistic touches and welcoming comfort of the house. We would definately return.
Already looking forward to our next visit!
We’re already looking forward to our next visit! Thank you for sharing your WONDERFUL cabin with us. It was like having our own private park in the Berkshires. Next time we’ll bring our two dogs. Even if they can’t quite appreciate the bright and airy cathedral ceiling and charming balcony the way we did, we know they’ll enjoy the pleasant walk to the ponds, and the other trails, too, just as much as the water itself. Thanks again for your hospitality; we had a great time!
Beautidul Secluded Oasis
Our family (and our dog) spent several magical days at this lovely secluded cottage in the Berkshires. It sits off a gravel road, up a hill and is surrounded by beautiful woods -- peaceful and serene. The cottage itself is lovely and well appointed. The loft bedroom (with balcony) is lovely and there are two nice sized bedrooms downstairs. A huge hit with our family was the gorgeous, large screened-in porch. It is huge, with a picnic table, a couple of sofas and a rocking chair. We spent many hours out there enjoying meals and playing chess -- nothing but the breeze and birds in the background. Behind the house, there are well marked trails that go through the woods and one goes down to the gazebo overlooking a beautiful lake where the canoe is stored. We make the hike (no more than 10 minutes) several times a day and took the canoe out often for fishing and just enjoying the beautiful lake. Cannot say enough about the peace and tranquility of this property. Bill, the owner, was wonderful and responsive. The little town of East Otis is very nearby with a country store and a place to get sensational ice cream and take out. There is a restaurant in town as well. Great Barrington is not that far with lovely shops and a huge variety of restaurants. We simply had a blast -- the dog, the kids and the adults. We cannot wait to return to the peace and quiet of this cottage.
