Great places to escape work and completely de-stress
Run away from all responsibility to this heavenly resort for a week of pure, unadulterated relaxation and exploration. This colourful, vibrant destination is ripe for the picking and will offer you anything from peace and tranquility to high-throttle adventure. Above all, the means to de-stress.
A group of 6 stayed at this beautiful property about 30 min outside of Puerta Vallarta. It was well appointed and the resort staff was phenomenal. Unfortunately there was a bit of construction noise as the remodel of the main pool was being performed just behind our villa. But to be fair that's out of the control of the owner. The only issues I had with the villa itself was that the whirl pool tub was inoperative and the wi-fi was spotty at best. I would recommend this property to large or medium size groups as there is more than ample room with sleeping arrangements for up to 12.
Not what they say it is
The place overall is nice but it's best days are in the past and most annoyingly, the description of the resort lacks some very import details.
* The house we stayed in was luxurious and spacious, but old and lacked attention to detail. For example, the jacuzzi in the master bedroom was out of service. Not that we would have used it anyways, but it just looked ugly to have a tarp over it. Also, the bathroom fixtures had chalky deposits all over. The cleanliness in general lacked detail. The wooden panels on the patio were very old and definitely should be replaced.
* The paddleboards and kayaks at the beach were a real disappointment. First of all, they only have 3 paddleboards that you can rent, but then they also close at 3pm! Apparently it's because of the wind, but it's still super annoying and we didn't really buy that story because it didn't seem any windier at 4pm than 2pm.
* The gym closes at 7pm! This is super ridiculous and annoying because during the day it was either too hot or we were outside the resort, so we couldn't use the gym at all
* Massages at the spa are available in theory, but we could get one either because apparently 4+ hours of notice weren't enough to get a therapist
* Every day around the afternoon time, there was intense sewer-smell coming out of the main A/C. This wasn't a subtle smell and we're not easily bothered by things like that on vacation, but this was very intense. We had to turn off the A/C in the afternoon which was fine since we were mostly outside anyways, but still a strange thing.
* This probably doesn't apply to people visiting in the future, but it still shows the general attitude of the property. While we were there, they were completely renovating the main pool with heavy machinery, extremeley loud noise (tearding down concrete walls), lots of dust. Yes of course we had our own private pool, but the main pool was right in front of our house and we had all the noise and dust.
On the PLUS side:
* the resort was mostly empty and so was the beach, plenty of space for everyone
* people working there were very nice and friendly
* the grocery shopping service was really nice and the fridge was stocked when we arrived
Overall, we have mixed feelings about whether we would recommend the place. Maybe depends on how important the things I described above are to you.
Great for families and a bunch of couples.
It was amazing for our family! The private pool was awesome for my grandkids. The property is guarded well and we felt very safe. It felt very private, but if you wanted to go to the public pools on the whole property or private beach it was nice too! We would stay again for sure!
I am delighted you enjoyed yourself as well as the villa and the resort. I hope to host you again in the near future. Rick
A lot of things I didn't catch in the FINE print
My family of 8 just got back from 7 days at Vallarta Gardens. (April 2019) There are a lot of nice things, but the bad outweighed the good. Luckily I was able to hide most of this from my family and just be internally frustrated.
Let's start with the cancellation policy. All over the VRBO listing is a certain cancellation fee policy from VRBO (100% before a certain amount of days) Well, the Owner is allowed to have his own policy and it can be whatever he wants. So if you book this Villa, you will not get one penny of your deposit back. Beware. I spent tons of time being told one piece of information from VRBO overseas, until the Owner sent me communication from his domestic contact at VRBO. I never got over how badly that was handled.
Rick sends handy notes (which I should thank him for) Unfortunately he recommends an outside chef service that is not allowed on the property. I spent over $300 dollars and planned a special evening that was ruined by the chef not being allowed in. Side note: The concierge at the Resort hasn't picked up on Customer Service skills at all.
Lets go with a pro. The house is beautiful. The grounds are beautiful too. They are renovating some of the pool areas and they will be wonderful. The janitorial and resort staff are super friendly.
Bring your mosquito spray. Everyone in my family was eaten alive by bugs in the house. There was also a daily path of ants to the kitchen that wasn't so pleasant.
Rent a car for sure. There is really nothing to do in the immediate area. We spent a lot of time in Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta.
Don't waste your money or time eating at the Resort. The two meals we had there (total of $350 for 1 lunch and 1 dinner ) we had to listen to other guests complain about the service, price and marginal tasting foods. Go to the grocery store. We spent $200 and bought a TON of food.
Rick provides a "once your in Mexico contact" for issues that need immediate attention. When I called that number and spoke to the gentleman he told me he does Accounting work for the Owner and can't help me in anyway nor does he know why Rick publishes his phone number.
I almost forgot about the club music on Friday & Saturday night until 3am. We tried to sleep with a sound machine and TV on and we were unable to drown out the music.
This didn't happen perfectly for our family, but that's ok!
I am disappointed and sorry that Alisha was not a fully satisfied like most of our guest. I am pleased that she enjoyed the resort.
Our cancellation policy is exactly as stated on HomeAway/VRBO and as of this writing the policy is a full refund until 60 days prior.
The resort experience problems with outside chef services and just before Alisha arrived changed the policy. Unfortunately, Alisha was not fully forthright about this situation as she contacted me and I was able within 24 hours to get her chef service approved to be allowed into the resort.
There was a change in the after hour emergency number (office is open from 8am-8pm daily) and Alisha and all other affected guest were notified. She must have referred back to the older information. Additionally, the person she spoke to did put her in touch with the current person.
The resort is a family resort nestled between two cities/villages Bucerias and La Cruz. Between them both they offer ample restaurants a full modern marina, an amazing farmers market, beaches and more. We are in a great place to explore the region. Approximately 50% of our guests rent a car. Taxis are easy to get and very affordable. The resort is not a party place.
The restaurant is affordable. For example an omelette is under $9 and a club sandwich with french fries is $9 with the most expensive item priced at just under $20. I have not received any other concerning guest comments regarding the restaurant. It should be noted that the $300 she mentioned was for eight people for two meals which works out to less than $20 per person which includes the beverages (alcohol and fancy child drinks are available), tax and tip at an oceanfront restaurant.
This is the tropics and when guests leave out food ants will arrive. When the staff are informed they quickly act upon it and will address the situation. I am unsure why her family had problems with mosquitoes as I have personally not experienced this nor have I had any prior complaints. Not that there are not zero mosquitos but I am not aware of anyone having been “eaten alive”
I contacting the GM about the loud music he has no reports of this or complaints durning this time. There are firm rules restricting noise at the resort and there are no nearby residences or establishments that are close to the villa to have this type of problem. I have not heard of this prior or since from any of our guests.
Great House, Great Staff, Great Location!
We only stayed five of the seven nights and wish we could have stayed the entire time with our friends. We loved this house!!! We lived in the villas pool, the main pool and beach. We really enjoyed the main pool area and once they finish up the final touches of the remodel of the area in a few weeks it is going to be amazing! Can't wait to next time and sit by the new pool bar.
The owner Rick was great to work with and made everything easy and the resort staff made all the arrangements ahead of our arrival, from food and drink, to transportation. The maid service was awesome. Jesus the general manager was super helpful for anything and everything.
The main living spaces and pool are amazing along with great outdoor spaces. nice ocean front restaurant/bar at the resort. Very reasonable prices and we enjoyed the food. The bedrooms and comfortable beds and I love that each room could control their own A/C. House location is great for short trips/nights out in Punta De Mita, La Cruz, Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta.
I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay and found the villa, resort and area to your liking. Hope to host you again soon. Rick
