Hidden Paradise !!!

  • 5 de 5

This place is amazing!!! From the moment we arrived the private aquarium started the excitement. We spotted Parrot fish, Lobsters, Stone crabs, Starfish, Horseshoe crabs, tons of Mullet and on our last evening a visit from a baby manatee to top it all off. This relaxing paradise comes with everything new grill, bikes, kayaks, life jackets, snorkel gear, fishing poles, all kitchen accessories. I even found a skill saw in the shed to cut up wood for the chimenea.

On our relaxing vacation right across the street is pier 68 boat rentals. No guided tours for our first time we rented a boat and explored the keys first hand anchoring off and snorkeling where ever we wanted. Also pulling up to a local dock at safari lounge grabbing a bite to eat and then back off we go what an awesome adventure we had renting a boat. Great Memories!

We reserved a sport fishing trip with Captain Rick & the Sea Horse charters located at blue whale harbor. My wife didn’t want to go and by the end of this trip she was so excited and glad she went. We caught Black fin tuna and Mahi-Mahi Dolphin. Captain Rick booked us a reservation at Lazy Days restaurant where they prepared our catch of the day with a very impressive platter right on the water’s edge. Thank you Captain Rick!

Key West is only 1 hour away and it was the perfect distance to go and enjoy the day. We ate at Pinchers seafood restaurant walked the streets shopping and getting brain freezes at fat Tuesday. we visited the southernmost point and then we headed back to our quiet and relaxing Paradise.

Bahia Honda state park is a very nice local beach. My buddy Mike & his wife Shawna have never snorkeled. This beach is the place to teach it’s clean with white sandy and very well taken care of. Very nice!

Enjoying the area I would recommend these locations. Robbie’s feeding the live tarpon; Olive Maranda imported Olive Oils, Islamorada Beer company brewery & tasting room, Lazy Days restaurant, Shell world, pier 68 Rentals and Sea Horse Charters. Lasting impressions!

The owner Jerry was nice and very easy going once we arrived he gave us the tour and pointed out some of the best things to do in the area. We all loved knowing that after our day of fun in the sun we had an awesome location to come back home to. Relaxing, enjoying and share our stories with our friendly Acquaintances also renting on property. Thank you very much Jerry for the memories we made.

Fantastic! Can't wait to go back!

  • 5 de 5

I can't say enough good things about our stay here. Watching the tides go in and out while drinking coffee or relaxing in the evening was so peaceful. If you like nature and peace and quiet, this is the place! Our unit was two bedrooms with a kitchen which was stocked with everything we needed. We used the kayaks all the time for fishing and sight seeing through the mangroves. Met a pod of manatees and spent some time with them. There is a shared outside grill and picnic area as well as bikes and pretty much anything you may need ready for use. There is a small convenience store just a quick walk away, and the location is central to so many things to do. Bennie met us when we arrived, showed us around and had suggestions on things to do. Very friendly and helpful. LOVED THIS PLACE and will definitely be going back!!!

Amazing is an understatement

My mom and I stayed here and this was by far the best location we've stayed at in the Keys. The photos are completely accurate and are the peaceful view you can plan on. The condo has everything needed and offers the peace and quiet you can't get at most of the other rentals in the Keys. The condo is on Long Key, centrally located within the Keys and an easy drive to lots of excellent excursions - or to just to stay and lounge at the condo. The owner, Jerry, was extremely helpful and provided a lot of great info. The condo looks out over the state park (the entrance is a half mile walk from the end of the street with a bicycle/pedestrian path to and beyond the state park entrance). The owners have kayaks (single and double), a canoe and bicycles and there was always one available (there are three other units in the building - two 1-bedroom units on top and two 2-bedroom units on the bottom, including this one). Plenty of parking room for 4 cars to easily park without parking anyone in the parking area. The view from the condo was just as shown. We saw sharks, stingrays and numerous fish and birds every day. We say full grown nurse sharks a couple times and a full grown green sea turtle one morning. I took a kayak out a couple times (once around the estuary and once out to the bay and even had a sandbar shark swim alongside me for several minutes). Out on the kayak, it was so peaceful and private that I felt as if I was the only person in the world. Long Key isn't developed other than the town that this condo is located in (Layton) and only has one small convenience store and gas station so you may want to go to Tavernier or Marathon for supplies (about 20 minutes drive). I also highly recommend visiting the Turtle Hospital in Marathon. It was very educational and great for both adults and children.

There is no place like this

  • 5 de 5

My husband and I have stayed in one of the bottom units several times. All the attractions of the Keys are close by & you can't beat the trip to the Dry Tortugas from KW.

Mostly we vegetate....kayak in the AM & often in the afternoon/night (stars are great...very little light pollution). We spend hours sitting on the patio looking down...truly a living aquarium We haven't seen all the reef fish but we see a lot of them. You look down and don't seem to see much right away but keep looking for several seconds and you will see what is actually right there in front of you. The line between human and nature is very thin here & that is what I enjoy the most. We're just another part of the universe here.

There are tons of migratory birds in the winter. A dozen pelicans that roost in the mangroves about 100 ft away...they fly in at dusk almost as a group to spend the night.

We had a Great Blue Heron stay within 20 feet of our chairs for hours on end this time. He was replaced after a week by a Night heron who came just after dark & stayed until morning.

This is what we saw from our patio this time (what I'm pretty sure I could identify or come close to...there were LOTS more, smaller ones at the patio, much larger ones in the channel).....gar, tarpon, yellow triggerfish, blue striped grunts, night groupers, sergeant majors, barracuda, snook, wrasse, bass...spiny lobsters, blue crabs, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, shrimp, starfish...green & red phosphorescent worms at night...jelly fish, mostly the ones that look like Queen Anne's Lace flowers...there is almost a farm of them in one of the smaller lagoons), there is also a sponge garden.

We saw stingrays almost every day, a manatee one night...the highlight this trip was a 2 minute visit from a fully adult dolphin. I have never seen a sea turtle here but others have. Our neighbor reported seeing a large loggerhead in the channel. I am told there are often manatee and turtles in the channel or if you paddle out to the bight (bay). Good snorkeling from the patio

Not a place for kids...the sea wall is not fenced. One side is deep enough for a small motor boat, the other is the shallow "aquarium' side. A ladder makes it easy to get into kayaks. There's a marina & convenience store in walking distance.

The owner, is wonderful, the property is better than advertised. Beachy, not resort. Fully equipped with gear, toys, even fish food, shampoo & Tide. Counting the days until we go back.

But in every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks. ~~ John Muir

Abandoning the rain clouds of Cincinnati, we embarked on a promise of seclusion and tranquility. On our flight descent we glided over an iridescent rainbow, a positive omen of the week to come in Long Key, Florida. This idyllic cluster of seaside villages is like sauntering into a dream ... the phenomenal preserve allows abundant time to seek and ponder...rejuvenate and reflect. The blunt silence is therapeutic and the ubiquitous wildlife is captivating.  No snorkel required in the lucent waters--we spied gar fish, crabs, sea anemone, and a horseshoe crab scavenging the ocean floor. Fashionable feathered friends soared overhead to hunt, rest, and model for the camera lens. Wendy lived on the welcoming veranda savoring the sights and sounds of the serene sanctuary...morning coffee, yoga and quiet time, inhaling the ebb and flow of the tides, evening dinner by candlelight. We paddled the kayak daily navigating through the liquid cobalt and lush mangroves. One crisp morning the Brave and Bold ventured to a deserted beach on the Atlantic Ocean! Paddling the placid lagoon at dusk became a favorite routine to swallow the hand painted sunsets. Swaying in the hammock by the glow of an autumn moon we witnessed enchanting shooting stars falling to earth.  Ahhhhh...this is the respite we craved. Even in the balmy storms and rain, this place is a magical mirage. Our side trips included Key West, Long Key State Park, Anne's Beach, Key Deer Refuge, Islamorada, and Sombrero Beach. All the excursions convinced us and confirmed one thing--this peaceful Long Key oasis is the most delicious spot in the entire Keys! On our exit from the Keys Jerry enthusiastically recommended biking the Everglades. We shunned the tram and busted our bouncing bottoms riding 15 miles through otherworldly landscape--glorious!  Jerry and Deborah are such fabulous, friendly hosts diligently attending to the needs of their guests--a compassionate, industrious couple possessing a wealth of information and history about the Florida Keys environment. Thank you so much, Jerry and Deborah, for sharing your private paradise with us. What a blessing and a gift--we are fortunate to have discovered the MOST exquisite jewel in the Keys ! We hope to return to share this gem with family & grandchildren. A wonderful place! Loved it! Just as pictured and described!

  • 5 de 5

My husband and I totally loved this place! We were there Feb. 26 - March 5, 2011 and stayed in one of the 2 bedroom units on the first floor....which was PERFECT for nature watching...saw a stingray right off the deck! Nothing like coffee in the morning out there, either! All renters respected each other's privacy, and the owner and his wife were the best! VERY helpful! Loved having the kayaks there for our enjoyment! We grilled steaks outside, and had dinner in the tikki hut. The place was beautiful, well taken care of, and clean. A nice, quiet location....no tourists walking around as you would see in a resort. If you want peace and quiet - this place is it! A wonderful place to relax. Probably should have done a little more of that! There is much to do in the area. Restaurants are about 20 minutes away. Nice being about halfway in the Keys....close enough to visit Key West easily. Visited the Turtle Hospital, Dolphin Research Center, Bahia Honda, Sombrero Beach, Anne's Beach, day trip to Key West where we visited the Mel Fisher Museum, the Hemmingway Mansion, climbed up the Lighthouse, and shopped along Duval street and took in Mallory Square for the sunset. Walked the Golden Orb trail in Long Key State Park. Ate at Morada Bay, Lazy Days, The Wreck, Island Fish Co, Frank's Grill, Sloppy Joes (Key West) all of which were excellent! We highly recommend staying here! You'll love it! Thank you for a memorable vacation!
