Beautiful house in Gaeta
This house has lots of charm. It’s quite a hike to get up the stairs to reach it (a car would have been an option but we wanted to walk), but the views are spectacular once you get there. The property managers were really helpful and lovely. In all we loved being here.
However, don’t expect high standards of luxury. Bathrooms and kitchen are very tired. This is someone’s much loved house that has been in the family for generations, so you have to roll with the rustic. In the end cooking really wasn’t an option with this kitchen (space is non existent and it needs a good scrub and clean out of the cupboards). Luckily the restaurants of Gaeta are fabulous!
The best bit: There is a lovely balcony to sit out and watch the harbour.
But we loved our week here and Gaeta is now a place we will always want to return.
Utrolig chamerende villa med en hel fantastisk udsigt og beliggenhed. Skøn lille by.
This lovely home is just as photographed, everyone was super friendly in this whimsical town. Marco’s recommendations for dining and beach days were perfect and the views of this property are truly magical. Our only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer and plan on returning. Grazie Marco!
The Best of Italy
We had a terrific week staying in the Villa Aragonese perched high above the Gulf of Gaeta. It was wonderful waking up every day to an unforgettable and every-changing panorama of water and mountains. With ample space for four adults (it has two and half very nicely appointed bathrooms), antiques and original art, spectacular views from every window, and a beautiful garden terrace on the lower level, it's as if everything wonderful about Italy has been tied up in one package. Gaeta is a friendly, charming, laid back resort town with centuries-old buildings stacked one on top of the other from the port to the great castle at the crest of the hill. The Villa Aragonese is perched near the top of the pile (hence the view), so it takes some climbing to get there, but it's more than worth the effort, and is accessible by car (with parking close by) if necessary. The kitchen is very small and not really suitable for anything but the simplest meal preparation, but Gaeta is full of good restaurants, most of them featuring fresh seafood right off the boat. This is an exceptional property and will be the best memory of your stay in Italy.
We are just back from a really wonderful week in Gaeta at this truly amazing house. It is spacious and full of history, with paintings and old books and all sorts of quirky bits and pieces. But of course what is so brilliant are the views from every window to the sea below and the mountains beyond. We came with my parents, both in their 80s, who just loved being able to watch the world go by from the balcony or the 'snug' (as we re-named the cosy little reading room).
The steep hill down to the harbour and shops were a challenge for them, my Dad brought his mobility scooter which could make it up and down (with a bit of a push on the up!) My teenage kids though would pop up and down to the ice cream shop as if it were nothing!
Parking was our only issue despite the brilliant parking pass. It was an incredibly busy week in Gaeta and we had a huge 9 seater vehicle on hire to accommodate all of us. Luckily we had taken out a high level of insurance as it was impossible to navigate the streets with a vehicle that size without some scraps and bumps. My advice would be hire a small car and parking and driving would be much easier.
Marco was very helpful and recommended a lovely restaurant for a birthday dinner for our daughter that we really enjoyed. We also had some great walks from the door up into the natural park and over the to grotto the other side.
There was a great little grocery shop with a fruit and vegetable stall next door at the bottom of the hill that we visited nearly every day - BUT it is not open on bank holiday Monday (as we sadly discovered when we arrived)
This was a very special property that I would highly recommend. I hope one day we will come back and enjoy the ever changing views. Thank you!
