Let me start with the positives of this unit: it was clean and well-situated in the city of Vancouver. It was easy to walk to many attractions. The owner is very responsive and has an easy to follow set of instructions for checking in and out (key fob must me picked up from a locked box at the Seven Eleven store on arrival and returned at departure). The building is locked and safe. It is close to dining and high end shopping. We appreciated the washer and dryer in the unit. Also, it was nice to have a parking place in the garage although it was an act of skill parking our SUV in the corner spot (key fob required for parking too- 2 gates to pass through).
The furnishings are somewhat minimalist- a lot of "pleather" chairs, sofa. Almost the entire place is furnished with Ikea: furniture, lighting, comforters, pillows, artwork, etc. There are limited bowls, plates and cutlery- I think I counted only one or 2 knives and 4 spoons. We did like having the dishwasher.
The condo is VERY small (the pictures are deceiving). I imagine however that most condos in Vancouver are small by US standards. We are a family of 5 and were really on top of each other. We spent almost the entire days away from the condo so this was not a huge problem. One of my children slept on a black futon/bench which was in what appeared to be a former balcony converted into a small sitting room. It was small and like the living room the entire floor to ceiling was a window. This might sound appealing but it was a sun trap and there was no view except for the next high rise condo unit. Our main concern was that we visited in July and it was unseasonable warm and the condo was above 80 degrees day and night. There are no a/c units. Thadeus did bring 2 additional small fans over when requested and we placed these blowing directly on our children. It was so warm that we considered moving to a hotel nearby and just forfeiting the VRBO fee (that would have been a small fortune at $600 USD per night at the nearby hotels). Also, the hallways were being painted while we were there and the water was turned off for 3 days between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. I messaged this information to the owner and he did not respond, nor offer any kind of apology or small refund for our inconvenience.
I think the unit is more suited for 3 or possible 4 people.
We loved exploring the Squamish and Whistler areas. Note allow up to 1 hour for crossing the border between US & Canada if you are driving
The apartment is centrally located and therefore very convenient. However, our stay was less than ideal because we weren't made aware of ongoing building works on our floor. We weren't able to spend much time in the apartment as we were affected by Water Shut-Off Notices daily; from 9am-4:30pm for the first two days after we arrived and then 9am-1pm the following day and 9am-noon on our day of check-out. This was challenging as we were traveling with 2 children and battling jet lag. Basically we only used the rental for sleeping at night. That said, the owner was sympathetic and I urged him to advise his next visitors so they wouldn't be surprised of the delayed completion of building works that began in mid-March.
We really enjoyed our stay at Thadeus’ VRBO. It was clean and well maintained. Having a protected parking spot was great as well. The location is excellent, in Yaletown and so close to downtown and Gastown. We would stay here again.
A nice place - great location!
Great location. Restaurants are nearby. There is a mall nearby, as well as a City Library.
There is mass transit readily available as well as a nearby stop for Hop-on, Hop-off sightseeing service within a block of the condo.
There is covered parking available if you use a rental vehicle. We didn't explore it's usage, however, since everything we did was within walking distance. This should be taken up with the owner to understand if it is available to VRBO members if you plan to use a rental vehicle.
There were only three downsides (and just minor ones at that):
- the condo is not air conditioned, but windows can be opened and the climate in Vancouver is very temperate.
- The security of the building was not well explained. For example, to get into the building and to use the elevator, you must hold the key fob next to the sensor to obtain entrance into the building and to use the elevator. Once you understood the process, and knew where the sensors were, it was fine and and greatly appreciated.
- the pick-up point for the keys was two blocks away. While not a deal-breaker, it does create a minor logistics issue when hauling luggage from the key location to the condo and arranging taxi service back to the airport. (If you are not renting a vehicle.)
Overall we greatly enjoyed the central location and the various activities nearby. We would stay again.
Downtown, extremely convenient to see the vital part of Vancouver
Easy access, the space is virtually new, is nicer than most hotels, close to great restaurant choices, great prices, the owner is easy to communicate with, which I find is the most important factor in the vrbos that I have used around the globe.
