Lovely Old School House in Bennington VT
We just returned from our stay at the Old Academy Schoolhouse in Bennington VT. My husband and I and two other couples stayed for 4 days while attending the Wilco Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Mass. Location was wonderful, only a half hour drive. The owner, James was a pleasure. He greeted us upon arrival and we toured the home with him. He was very laid back and very nice to work with. I contacted him with a few minor things, and he responded promptly. The master suite was very nice including a claw foot tub in the bathroom. There were two queen rooms which shared a bath, and a loft upstairs with a sitting area. More than enough room for 6 people. There was a nice open floor plan so we could always hang out, whether cooking or eating or playing a board game (of which there were many). The house was very neat and tidy and well stocked. The Bennington Battle Monument was right up the street. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to see the historic sights in Bennington. We'll save that for the next time we visit. Thank you James for being such a great host. We hope to stay with you again. Lisa
Can’t say enough about the property, location and hospitality of our host James who was very accommodating and friendly. Steps from the Monument in the nicest neighborhood in Bennington. The house is fantastic, even better than the pictures. Make sure to stop by Harvest Brew if you visit the area.
Great long weekend stay in a special place.
Our family had the most incredible stay over Memorial Day weekend. The house has everything you need and the history of Old Bennington is just awesome. James was a great host. We look forward to returning very soon.
Exquisite property! Enjoyed every aspect of our stay.
The Old Academy is, quite simply, a beautiful place to stay! As somebody who grew up in the UK, I know what good restoration looks like. The property is clearly a treasured family getaway and is tastefully decorated throughout. It was a pleasure to spend the evening relaxing in the massive(!) kitchen and family room. The bedrooms were very comfortable and tranquil. Loved the master bathroom! It really is quite unique. The whole street of Monument Avenue is steeped in history and it's a pleasure to browse the homes in the neighborhood.
We used Bennington as a base for a long ski weekend. The town is well-situated for exploring multiple resorts with easy access to the main roads. We will definitely want to visit again, either for a ski weekend or perhaps in the summer too.
Our host, James, was very communicative and made our stay very easy and welcoming.
We would love to stay again!
Interesting, beautiful home in beautiful area
The historic house is warm, well-appointed, and lovely. We enjoyed our stay in Old Bennington very much and would return to the Academy house.
Historical charm with Current Amenities
My family had the best experience at The Old Academy! James was there to meet us and go over the layout/amenities of the historical schoolhouse turned family home. The open floor plan on main level was perfect for keeping an eye on my young kids, while also enjoying company of my extended family. Having central air in Vermont is a rare find & certainly made our stay more comfortable! The owners provided great quality, clean linens & towels, along with toilet paper - all of which we brought too but was nice to have extra! A short walk to Bennington Monument and quick drive to quaint spots in downtown Old Bennington gave us plenty of options of things to do. I would absolutely recommend staying here and certainly will do so myself if we are in the area again! Thank you James for sharing The Old Academy with us!
À deux pâtés de maisons de la Old Academy, vous trouverez le monument commémoratif de la bataille de Bennington, la vieille première église (où est enterré Robert Frost) et le musée Bennington.
