Get away from it all in rural Normandy
A great location to discover the pleasures of rural Normandy, the coast is within easy reach, try Houlgate. Lots of cider and cheese producers to discover, try the local château at Bellou for excellent organic cider and apple juice and Livarot is great for cheese lovers.
This was our second visit to Le Pressoir and it didn't disappoint. You can't help but relax when you see the beautiful setting of this property. We spent many hours in the garden enjoying the view and watching the sun go down. There aren't many mod cons and no wi-fi, but this isn't a bad thing! The water is hot, the bed comfortable, and all the views are amazing.
We brunched on bread, cheese, pate and fruit outside on the first floor terrace and barbecued most days in the garden.
A great place to get away from it all.
We had two great weeks in Le Pressoir!! A Charming place to stay, not too far away by car.
The house was just the way we thaught it would be. Old and cosy. We immediatly felt at home there, living in the middle of the fields with cows and appletrees for two weeks. Everything we needed was there and we didn’t miss our tv or internet for one minute! During our stay we were lucky with the wheather: a bit fresh in the first days but that gave us the opportunity to visit some musea and military places of interest. Later on we just had sunny days which we will remember because of the many pictures we took during the several roadtrips and walks we made. We went to the house and gardens of Monet in Giverny (the farthest trip we made but still less than 2 hours to drive). Really fantastic, very busy with tourists but that’s the price we gladly paid for this great experience! We often went to the seaside and our top three of places was: Viller sur mer, Houlgate and Blonville. The balisica of St Thérèse was very impressive and Lisieux has some fine shops and restaurants too;)
Pont l’Eveque was nice too with all the old typically Normand houses and had, from our point of view, more to offer than for example Beuvron en Auge because that’s a bit too touristic,we think. Quite nearby Le Pressoir we found the Château Saint Germain de Livet as a hidden treasure in the countryside. An interesthing story about the artistic family who lived in the castle for many years was told by an enthousiastic guide. We also loved the well kept Jardins du Pays d’Auge in Cambremer which is a lovely village as well.
Still, we haven’t seen everyhting yet, we planned to go to Rouen and Caen but we didn’t. The seaside attracted us more because of the sunny wheather. Maybe we have to come back to go there an other time. Sounds like a great idea!
A lovely, quiet, retreat
It was great to get away from it all surrounded by the stunningly beautiful Normandy countryside. A perfect place to take the kids to show them that there is life without WIFI!
There is plenty to do in the surrounding countryside: trips to local markets, visit historic sites, the Battle for Normandy passed this way and Bayeaux is within easy reach or even head to the coast; Houlgate was our favourite just 50 minutes away.
Thanks for the positive review Steve and we are pleased you loved the house and surrounding area. We hope to have you again some time.
Peaceful, secluded retreat
The house is situated in one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) valleys in the Pays d'Auge. It's so peaceful, all you can hear (and see) are the cows and the birds. There's one neighbour nearby, and that's all. The house itself is authentic and charming. I spent a wonderful week here during this September, the slight chill of the evening air taken care of by the wood-burner. I recommend to anyone seeking calm and tranquility. Lisieux market (famed) is only a few miles away on Saturday. Also, the restaurant at Notre Dame d'Courson (the nearby village) is both a treat, as well as very economic. The surrounding walks suggested by the owners are wonderful (again, no one to disturb, not even a single car passing all week). If elderly you do need to manage one broad staircase to enter the property (easy to navigate). Oh, and the owners are a pleasure to deal with. Though we've not met, I feel I know and trust them simply through the dealings of booking and post-booking. Will return again without hesitation.
Thank you Mark, we're pleased you loved the peace and quiet. You have perfectly described the enchantment of the house and its location which we also love. We look forward to your return soon, perhaps in the Spring, which is a beautiful time of year with all the flowers and apple blossom on show.
