No need for a second stay
We (2 friends) stayed at the flat from July 4 to 22.
The owners never introduced themselves, never asked if everything was ok, didn´t turn up for our departure (so we wrote a good-bye letter as we had the feeling they really did not want to see us).
There was a sheet with some basic info in the flat.
The hostess´s mother - really nice - was there occasionally and tried to be helpful.
After about 12 days we had to ask her for fresh towels. There was no change of bedclothes for the 17 nights.
The main light in the living room didn´t work as the switch is on the other side of the door in the owners` part of the house. Unfortunately only one of the standard lamps in the living room worked. After talking about this to Melissa`s mother we expected her to contact us, but she didn´t, which is why we stopped complaining.
There is no real cooker, only two rings. If you switch on both rings, the toaster and the hairdryer at the same time, the fuse goes.
The front bedroom will make you celibate if you are a couple - it squeaks whenever you move. In the back bedroom even the bed vibrates when the fan upstairs is switched on, and if it is on the whole night you feel the vibrations in your body (no, not pleasantly).
Worst, however, is the little room in the middle of the apartment with machines like humidifiers and such. The humidifier was kept running incessantly 24 hours for the last 6 or 7 days/nights of our stay. If you have ever been on a ferry near the engine ... well, that´s what it is like.
When we rented the apartment in January or so it said in the description that there was a washing-machine. Later Melissa informed us that they might not manage to instal it by July. The washing machine was not there yet and after staying there I wonder where there might be space and a water tap for a machine.
If you get home in the dark you have to walk down alongside the house in the dark and you have to feel for the keys of the lock - there is no light showing the way or lighting the entrance.
There was no broom, vacuum cleaner or similar to keep the floors clean.
We will certainly not go to this place again - sorry for this review but had our hosts asked we could have talked about it. So we had the feeling - they are just interested in taking our money without showing some basic courtesy to which I am used from holiday apartment owners.
Generally a nice neighbourhood, a nice view and a very nice grandmother - therefore 2 stars.
You were our first long-term guest. Due to the nature of our suite, we usually only have weekend guests for 5-7day long stays at the most. You're correct in that we only have a hot plate, toaster oven and BBQ for cooking as our listing states and there is no washer/dryer. It's similar to a hotel kitchenette suite without housekeeping (which is reflected in the price).
When you arrived, I showed you how to unlock the door with the key pad, and I told you if you needed anything to text me on the number provided on the information sheet. I also wished you a safe journey over from Germany on the VRBO message and told you to check in once you arrived and let us know if you needed anything, please see the message thread.
We changed your towels and would have gladly changed them again and your sheets too had you asked. My mom assisted you while she was there watching the home, as I am a single working mom and didn't have the summer off, and I had to travel to Winnipeg for a wedding with my young children for a week. So I am sorry, but I wasn't home/available in person very much to assist you, but it's a self contained unit, and I didn't know you needed help.
I am sorry that my daughters fan tipped over and disturbed you one night, and we turned it off once you informed us of the noise it had made, disturbing your sleep. And yes, the front room has an IKEA metal bed frame and it does squeak.
We have now placed a broom in the furnace room (that is the little room that you reference was noisy; it houses the hot water tank and furnace which runs the air conditioner). Thank-you for your suggestion that we have a broom available for guests, as this was an oversight.
The main living room light can only be accessed from our side, so that is why we have placed three lamps in the suite to light up the space and the main kitchen light also adds lighting to the space in the evening. It's an older home, so yes, the circuits can get overloaded and a fuse will blow, but the panel is in the first bedroom, and you were able to switch it back on at the panel. Sorry that it was an inconvenience for sure.
Again, we're sorry that you did not have a pleasant stay at our home, and had we known by you texting me, I would have assisted you. It was not our intention for you to be frustrated. The weather wasn't great as there were many fires in the area during your stay (record breaking year for fires), and so I'm sure this isn't add to the value of your stay. MH
