Perfect antidote to city life.
As artists and photographers, we wanted a 'creative' break with no immediate neighbours in a tranquil location, and this ticked all the boxes. This historic building has been very well converted, and is set on the edge of a small farming village with panoramic views out onto rolling countryside. Whilst the internal stairs are a bit steep - and narrow towards the top of this tapered building - they presented no real difficulties to this 56 and 63-year-old couple and by the end of our two week holiday we had really got use to them. We also managed to eat out in the secluded garden every day and would watch the sun setting whilst drinking some ridiculously cheap local fizz. Plenty to see and do locally with some excellent supermarkets 20 minutes away and the coast about 50 minutes away (although we gave that a miss in August). The property has an efficient support network locally - not that we needed it - with an English couple acting as remote caretakers ( just call them if you need them) and an English gardener. Sally the UK-based owner is very quick to respond to any queries by email. On our one rainy day we snuggled down for 'film day' using the well-stocked DVD library and compact but high-quality AV system. Good walking nearby, and we even saw a family of Eurasian Beavers running along the nearby stream. A wonderfully historic building in a semi-remote location and recommended as an antidote to city life.
RUINED OUR HOONYMOON
•Rodents above our head when sleeping
Plugs and light bulbs in the windmill not working, even though the owner had been there a week before.
Rodents trying to get in the kitchen and digging through a hole that has been there for some time.
Fire alarm going off randomly
Bernini told by the owner we are lying about the rodents and we can hear"birds" in the attic!
The owner is uncooperative, rude, frequently changes her story and seems to have an answer for everthing.
Leaving after only 2 days and being told we would get a full refund but then to find out only 50% refund as the owner was charging us for cleaning and an investigation of the rodents!!
NOT THE RELAXING HONEYMOON WE PLANNED!!
The clients provided no evidence of any of the issues they have stated.
Saying they were awoken by a mouse scratching in the kitchen when they were 3 floors up in the bedroom, and that it waited there whilst they went to investigate...is extremely unlikely! I have owned the windmill for 15 years and I know every inch of the building, I had the property checked and there is no sign of rodents anywhere. I have experienced birds in the roof void, because it is not possible to close the space where the roof sits on the top of the meter thick walls.
I have two guest books full of excellent reviews and to have this put on the HomeAway site is disappointing. I refunded 50% and have an email from Mr Jackson accepting this! I take people's comments very seriously when they are warranted and am a great believer in customer satisfaction. Sometimes people can be unhappy with their choice of holiday property and try to obtain refunds without any proof of their claims.
PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.
We booked a stay at this charming windmill.Never knowing what to expect I can honestly say it exceeded all our expectations.
Situated in the middle of the French countryside surrounded by farm land.
At night we would sit outside and star gaze due to zero light pollution.
The Windmill itself is well appointed with everything you would need.
As the owner explained this is a romantic retreat so no WiFi which is good because it gives you time to cut yourself off from the rat race and enjoy each other and relax.
During our stay we ventured out to La Rochelle and as far as field as St Emillion.
Where the windmill is situated you have local shops and with a little further there are many supermarkets to choose from.
We met Sally the owner on our last two days and found her very entertaining and good company.
The only regret I have about this holiday was that we booked a second week in Rennes and really wish now we had booked this week in the windmill.
We will be booking for 2017 in August for our Honeymoon and can't wait to get back.

Thank you for your kind comments. It was lovely to meet you both and I look forward to welcoming you back to the windmill this year.
All the best....Sally
We stayed in the beautiful windmill for 1 week - lovely place in a quiet village - plenty of places to explore - we had a car - the owner has left lots of information & leaflets - very clean - beautiful bedroom & bathroom - lovely view from the top - we generally are outside in the barbecue area - we arrived to a lovely bottle of wine - if you sit outside at night , amazing starlit sky so clear - perfect with a glass of wine and so peaceful - owner very helpful , would love to return one day - highly recommend !
Beautifully restored windmill in a lovely part of France. Have now stayed there twice and am very impressed by the cleanliness and wonderfully appointed interior of this historic building. Would certainly recommend tis to my friends
