This is the perfect house for a small group or family. The views are great. The property is spotless when you arrive, and the owners are fantastic to work with. I would not even consider staying anywhere else when we return to this part of the state. Thanks for a great experience!
Great cottage home. Spectacular views. Fun activities.
We’re a family of 5 and were looking for a quiet getaway on the water with boat access/pier, swimming, kayaking, etc. this was it! Had kayaks and jackets for use (easy to launch right there). Water level at pier is typically 5 ft or so. Was about a foot down due to little rain. If you have boat, you can dock it (put in is at Quarterdeck - very close - 10 min boat ride!) Can ski, tube, wakeboard right up the creek (about 30 sec boat ride to get in a little deeper water). If you don’t have a boat or want to learn how to wakeboard, wake service, etc., then make sure you contact Corbin at Wake2Wake. He is great and may be able to pick you up at the house’s pier! Overall, there wasn’t much boat traffic (very little in fact).
Homeowner was polite and very responsive to pre-book and post-book questions. Place was in great condition. We loved sitting on covered, screened porch and looking over the water and feeling breeze. Highly recommend!
Wanted privacy, got it
We had a wonderful time. Private boat dock. Private residence. Secluded on over an acre of land filled with birds, squirrels and other wildlife. We crabbed, tuned, skied, fished and kayaked. I and my family would recommend this home
This was perfect for my husband and myself to get away from it all. I loved the evenings on the pier.
Great place to stay!
Awesome visit spent relaxing and enjoying the view,... jumping fish, birds, squirrels and even got to see the resident eagle. No restless nights trying to sleep because beds, sheets, and pillows were awesome! Thanks for an enjoyable stay!
Secluded waterfront retreat for small group or family. Spectacular sunsets.
Heron House was the perfect home base for our group to travel to nearby wildlife refuges to view the swans and other birds that migrate from the arctic to Eastern North Carolina in the winter. We made sure to be back in our "nest" by dusk to enjoy spectacular sunsets. On our last night we enjoyed a celestial event from the pier -- a full lunar eclipse surrounded by a densely starry sky.
Preparing dinner together in the roomy, well-stocked kitchen became a highlight of our trip and not a chore. Washington and Belhaven also offer numerous unique, locally owned dining options and the opportunity to buy extremely fresh seafood to prepare back at the "nest".
The house has been recently remodeled and features an open floor plan and spacious gathering spaces. The screened porch overlooking the creek and running the length of the house was a favored spot for sipping morning coffee and tea and -- come five o'clock, -- a glass of wine. Furniture is new, comfortable and in excellent shape. Tasteful furnishings and decor feature original artwork. Beds are extremely comfortable.
Our hosts were very welcoming -- checking in with us to make sure we had what we needed but also allowing us our space. They were responsive to an issue we had with accessing wireless upon our arrival (the router had come unplugged). The property is off the beaten path yet a short drive for provisions. Our idyllic trip did end with a medical emergency on our last morning, but, thankfully, Washington's excellent medical facilities were only a short drive away.
We will be back to this retreat -- both as a group seeking new adventures or with our separate families. For future trips, we are thinking of doing yoga on the porch during the warm months, or kayaking, or taking the Pamlico river ferry over to explore the southside, or just more chilling.
