The location of Les Platanes is perfect. In the centre of activity,it is a wonderful place to sit & relax and watch the world go by. Cafes,restaurants,bread & cake shops,supermarkets (Monoprix) all within a few yards.
The apartment is very clean and comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. The beds are very comfortable.
We caught the 'navette' to and from the airport. the stop at the railway station was a very short walk away from the apartment.
Carole & David,the local contacts gave us a warm welcome,complete with a bottle of wine and were able to answer any questions we had.
We ate at the LongChamps restaurant on the opposite side of the sqare. Food was very good and staff were friendly and helpful.
The Saturday market should not be missed!!
We also had a wonderful trip on the Canal Midi on Sunday morning.
Overall a fantastic weekend in a wonderful location. Thank you Caroline.

Before reviewing can I say that myself and sister both work in the hotel/catering industry and there therefore ultra critical!!
The two appartments were ideally situated for our few days in Carcassonne.Having been to the city before we knew whare we were going.As we normally stay in country areas we were prepared for the city noise previous users had mentioned but found it was not a problem,even pleasant to hear the buzz of the town.
The appartment is very well equiped and although we only did breakfast in and ate out mostly there was nothing we couldn't find.We did however have a minor problem with the gas and did not find any instructions about gas bottle etc? Again no great problem as the cooker had an electric hob as well.
The rooms are comfortably furnished in a shabby chic Frech style which may not be my personal taste but they fitted in with the overall feel of the place.
Cleanliness of the appartement was as good as we could have expected although my one critisism is the whole appartment could do with a lick of paint( particularly the entrance and stairs) to bring it up to the standard that the owners are obviously striving to portray.
This however did not detract from our break and the other advantages of the place outweighs my pickiness!
As I discussed with the owner it would be simpler, as she did for us, to give one price including everything rather than have to sort out prices for laundry ,cleaning,taxes and rental.
I would use the place again and would recommend it

I was impressed with this apartment from the moment I first contacted the owner by email to the moment I walked out the door with my luggage early one morning to catch the train to our next destination. Caroline is friendly and helpful and provided us, not only with every detail we could wish for on Les Plantanes, but a good deal of information about Carcassonne, La Cite, driving in France, directions, trains and plane services and more. There were wine and flowers when we arrived and the furnishings and decor are quite luxurious and tasteful for a holiday apartment. The location is ideal and, as has been remarked upon by previous tenants, it's great to be able to sit by the window and watch the people in the square below. The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms were on the quiet side of the building, there were some nice books to read (I made it all the way through Stephen Fry's "The Liar" which I would recommend) and it is spacious.
We did have a few small issues. There is no oven for example so we were not able to take full advantage of all the wonderful produce from Saturday's market in Place Carnot or the Elizabeth David compendium which is on hand. Also, Carcassonne traffic is quite noisy, primarily because so many people seem to tear around on two-stroke motorbikes and scooters at all hours of the day and night. This can't be blamed on Caroline of course, and it must be said that the bedrooms are more than adequately insulted from the noise at night time, it's just a shame that this splendid city is adversely affected by traffic noise.
Finally, a note about Chez Fred which many people have recommended both here and on other websites. On the night we went, the service was very slow, the waiter spilt a glass of red wine over a lady's beautiful dress and my Cassoulet so so over-cooked, it was completely dried out. There are many other people who rate it very highly so they were probably just having a bad night.
Would I stay at Les Plantanes again? I most certainly would and thank you again Caroline for making the whole experience so easy and pleasant.

Well where to start....
From the moment the taxi dropped us in La Place Carnot we knew that we were going to love it here! We found the entrance to Les Platanes and opened the door to a lovely old French twisty staircase....the apartment is on the first floor..... we opened the apartment door, walked in and felt straight at home it was just perfect and exactly as described!
Caroline has thought of everything to make it a home from home....and the beautiful flowers,lovely bottle of wine & milk in the fridge were a lovely touch.
Looking out the windows onto Place Carnot is a joy. Watch all the life that goes on, people walking dogs, couples holding hands others having a coffee in one of the many lovely places on the square........
Everything is within walking distance and there are some fantastic bargains to be found! Our suitcases went home a few kilos heavier!
The market on Saturday morning is fabulous great to go downstairs and walk around it with the authentic shopping basket (that is provided in the apartment ) filling it with fresh fruit, veg and other goodies to cook later in the very well equipped kitchen.
La Cite is a fairytale and so beautiful we had a wonderful guided tour, which was free on the day we visited and bought some lovely souvenirs but shop around as some places are very expensive.
The restaurants are lovely and on the whole very reasonable, but I would not recommend L'Ecuire, poor service and a drunken rose seller nearly falling onto the table......but on the bright side it gave us a good story to tell friends!
I would just like to say thank you Caroline, for everything, for making our stay so comfortable and or all the little extra touches to make us feel so at home.
We will without doubt be visiting again soon.

Wow. Carcassonne is a wonderful location, never mind the fairy tale castle, La Bastide Saint-Louis which this rental location sits at the heart of is a gem of its own.
The accommodation has everything for a full 2 week holiday to allow a full immersion into French life even a basket to join the locals downstairs at the best market we have been to.
The owner looked after us from first enquiry with brilliant advice to give us a fantastic holiday, the first time we have packaged our own overseas holiday and our first trip to France.
With an 8 year old and 11 year old there is plenty to do and the detail is correct NO car needed. The station is a lovely short walk away the airport a short taxi ride away, local cheap buses a "petit train" and plenty to see on foot or on a canal trip.
The local people we met were all very welcoming, in fact the only downsides of France we encountered are well documented, public toilets (avoid!), dog owners who do not clear up (be careful) and for some reason the purchase of a soft drink away from supermarkets in any other form of shop seems exceptionally expensive (careful planning sorts that).
I will certainly be putting a mention of this property on our works internal website. Many thanks to Caroline and her "French" team for a wonderful experience.

The best feature of this apartment is its location right on the bustling square. That does have its downside however: between late night motorcyclers and early morning delivery trucks, it is a bit noisy, especially with windows open. The bedrooms are very small, but the bathroom layout was good for our family of four. The best room in the place is the wonderful eat-in kitchen overlooking the square. Adjoining that is a roomy, serene sitting room which helps to make the place feel quite spacious. A variety of shopping is withing a few short blocks. Count on a good 15 minute walk to get to your car if you drive anywhere. The owner and local contact people were very accommodating and helpful. The price is very reasonable.

Just returned from a delightful week in Carcassonne, staying Les Platanes. The apartment is charming and has absolutely everything you could possibly need. The information supplied about the locality was tremendous and put to good use. We veered off the recommended restaurants on two occasions to dine in Cote Ferme on rue Chartron. Very different dining experience and much enjoyed!

We hired bikes from the company recommended by Caroline and spent a day cycling on the Canal. Very reasonable price and open till 7pm, so we were able to make the most of a full day. We also took a taxi up to the Lac de la Cavayere (it was far too hot to walk) and spent a relaxing day walking and swimming. The taxi company happily came back for us. Word of warning though, although I had the card for the company, I couldn't remember the international code for France which I needed to use phoning from my mobile. Fortunately, I had a small leaflet with restaurant advertisements and one of these had the code! We used the train service - remember to composte your tickets in the little yellow machines before going onto the platform!

The location was fantastic and although situated on the square, the noise from the bars quietened down quite quickly, although we were usually fast asleep with all the windows open!

The medieval city was wonderful. There are lots of restaurants up in the city also, some a lot more expensive than others but we basically stuck to the Plat du Jour menus and were nevery disappointed with the quality.

All in all, a fabulous apartment in a delightful town. Would love to return to stay and travel further afield to see more of the Cathar country!

This is a delightful and comfortable apartment and was great for home comforts following ten days meandering along the Canal du Midi in a boat. We loved hanging out of the windows watching the square and the cafe life and ambling around the streets of the Bastide. The apartment is beautifully furnished and well equipped and we made good use of the guide books (which had the effect of inspiring me to return for more visits) and CDs for guests' use. We also followed guest recommendations on where to dine and were not disappointed. Le Sixieme Sens was excellent but a bit warm as it is in a cellar. Whilst the night-time noise was at times noticeable those of us who kept the windows closed were fine. The compensation was waking up to the playing coming from the music centre (not the nightclub) across the road - it was great and a different instrument every day.

Secure parking under the Square Gambetta was very good - the cleanest and brightest-lit carparking I have ever seen and the staff were very helpful to our party when buying a card for our stay.

Caroline's notes sent before you stay are comprehensive and extremely informative and illustrate the excellent service she and her managers provide. No hesitation in either returning or recommending the apartment.
