We had a great stay at Zen Lite! Our biggest problem, if you can call it a problem, was that we had so many things to do and places to see that we found it impossible to see it all!
The setting is wild and tropical, in a neighborhood carved right out of the forest. You can hear the ocean with the windows open. We met a few locals at the beach, and they were nice and welcoming. One of them invited us to the drum circle the next day, which we had to pass up due to wanting to see the volcano.
The lava ocean entry during our stay was about a mile and a half from the end of the road- close enough to see the steam clearly from the viewing area, but far enough away that flowing lava was not visible. The drive up to Volcano Village and the national park is about an hour- but well worth it. We visited the park three of the four days that we stayed at Zen Lite. Everything about the volcano has a magical feel to it, and the Puna district has a magic of its own that is complementary but different.
We had a chance to visit the volcanically heated tide pools at Kapoho, and that was well worth the visit, too.
Many thanks to Dianne and Phil for their hospitality, and for maintaining such a well-kept cottage! Mahalo!
